OK so I was just wondering. Haven't played many games, but this is what i'm thinking:

A 5 man Assault Squad (don't start, it's what I have) with a Sergeant with Power Sword and Bolt Pistol.

With the rest of the squad wielding bolt pistols and chainswords:

The normal assault marines will get 3 attacks each?

1 normal
1 for wielding 2 close combat weapons
1 for wielding a chainsword

So that's 12 attacks

Sergeant will get 3 or 4 attacks??

2 normal
1 for wielding 2 close combat weapons
1 for wielding power sword??

So in all you could be looking at 16 attacks from a 5 man squad...

No. Assault Marines have 2. 1 base and 1 for two weapons.

You don't get extra attacks for a Chainsword. Where did you get this idea?

Sorry thought chainswords conferred an extra attack. What are they useful for then if they don't give an extra attack over a combat blade???

You would only get 3 attacks on the charge, otherwise just two attacks.

1 base, 1 for pistol/ccw, 1 for charging

Combat blades dont actually exist in the game as a weapon, currently. Its why Tac marines only have one attack - they dont have a chainsword or other CCW, and only a bolt pistol.

Ah thanks. so the max the squad will get is 16 attacks (using the sergeant's 2 base attacks plus 1 for pistol/ccw plus charging).

thank you.

Exactly. The bolt pistol + the chainsword = 2 close combat weapons, thus giving the model +1 attack in close combat. Regular marines have a pistol but no “real” close combat weapon, thus getting only their base 1 attack in close combat. Of course, both get +1 attack the turn they charge.

I hate tac marines not having chainswords.

So basically if I take a 10 model assault squad i'll get a shedload of attacks.....28 in total!!

Interesting.

I might combine my 2 5 man squads then.

Oh on a side note (YES I have the rules at home but am not there now lol) do lightning claws give extra attack, or just allow you to reroll failed hits?

A pair of lightning claws does give the +1 attack for wielding two CCWs. AND lightning claws re-roll to Wound.

And then if you really want to put the hurt on, you could attach a Chaplain to the squad, so the whole unit re-rolls to hit when they charge!

Well I do have a chaplain, but he isn't Jump Pack equipped.....

Can chaplains attach themselves and detach themselves from squads during the game?

You can. Just do your own design and say "These counts as Black Templars".

Yeah, but then how do I do a Second Legion army......

If I do a small strike force army I might say "counts as".

But i'm having fun making my army at current work.

You can still do counts as.

True.

And black armour would be SO much easier to paint.
