I haven't actually playtested this yet so I'm looking for suggestions. I wanted to see if I could get away from the stationary gunline Guard are known for and went for a mechanized, close combat platoon with good armour support and this is what I came up with. I'm looking for some feedback before I actually try this out.

Hell

You're going a bit overzealous on the upgrades of your forces, bringing down the size of your forces. Lessen up the upgrades and buy more soldiers. For guard, you need to focus mainly on either soldiers or vehicles. It's your call. Upgrades are good in some aspects, yes. But if there were anti-infantry, your soldiers would be killed in a heartbeat and there would be nothing to save you from having your soldiers die. This can be prevented if you have more soldiers to destroy what is killing your soldiers. And if there were anti-tank, your tanks are done for. This would be countered if you had enough soldiers to outgun the anti-tank that's killing your guys.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm still very much a new player; this close-combat oriented list came mainly from me and a Tau player getting completely overrun by a combined Chaos/Vanilla space marine doubles game. I really don't want that to happen again, so I need something to hold up assaulting squads. I've read a lot of players like to tie them up with Armouerd Sentinels cause most infantry can't breach AV12 in assault, should I look into that? I also wouldn't mind using Ogryns, but they cost a lot of points to field.

I guess I'm mostly looking for suggestions on how to protect my gunlines from assaulting units.

Its not your army list its really how you play it. You want to play your gunline using speed bumps feed his assault units bit by bit to hold them up and until you have the guns to unload on them and watch their army fall apart. Especially with Imperial Guard you need to know how to slow down your opponent keep the game at your pace. On your list go back to a static gun line with blobs and commisars but if your having trouble break your platoons to 20-30 man squads and do the speed bump tactic.

Give your chimeras the Multi-laser turret. Loads better.

Not a fan of PP's on Sarge's, they usually don't make their save, with only 1 wound...not fun.

Tone down the upgrades, add more units.

I think I found your problem here. Essentially, you've spent far, far too much on upgrades. Priests, especially are useless. No IG model is above I3. Most enemies strike first. The priest is an IC. He can be singled out in combat, he's 1W, T3, with a 4+ inv. Any sensible opponent can kill him before your squad strikes, boom, 60 points down the drain, you've given up a KP. Even if your opponent is incompetent and the priest survives a turn or two, is a 45-point upgrade going to make an IG squad good in combat? Course not. Individual IG squads aren't good in a melee. Live with it.

So, your current platoons are a compromise between combat and mechanised firepower. Here are two altenratives. Mechanised:
PCS - 4 flamers, chimera: 105
PIS - GL, AC, chimera: 120
PIS - GL, AC, chimera: 120
See, that's not even half as expensive as your current platoon. Take 2 of those, and a squad of veterans in a chimera w/3 meltaguns. More units, more firepower, won't get rolled any worse in assault than before.

Or, combat:
PCS, 3 flamers, vox: 50
4xPIS: 1 vox, 4 PWs, 1 commissar w/PW, 4 meltaguns: 340
Again, I think 2 of those squads is just a tad more than your current platoon. This, I suppose, is the one formation where a ministorum priest would be useful. Don't give him any upgrades, trail him at the back of the unit so when he piles in he never makes base contact - thus denying your enemy the opportunity to assassinate him. See, 45 points for 20 rerolled attacks? Not too great. With 80 attacks? Better. (still completely optional IMO though)

Ok, hope that helps with the platoons. Really, it's eating up your points at present.

With chimeras, stubbers and dozer blades are not necessary. I'd only ever consider dozer blades if I was fielding so many vehicles they were jamming up between terrain.

Veterans, looking alright, I would drop the pistol on the sergeant and the grenadiers upgrade, you'd be pretty close to buying them a chimera. Better protection than carapace, adds mobility to get that 12" touble-tap in, and a nifty tank in its own right. Yeah, your guys will overheat 1/9 shots instead of 1/12. Who cares, its what they're for.

Leman russes - heavy stubbers are a bit weak, HB sponsons likewise. They're not bad per se - its just that most experienced players tend to keep upgrades light and get more on the field.

Hope that helps - in summary, you could fit a LOT more bodies and vehicles in, and wreck face easier. Wargear is your enemy, embrace quantity!

Incinerating your hopes

Drop the Psyker, he blows compared to a CCS with 4 plasmaguns and a chimera

Drop the Comisars, remember, if you fail a leadership test he'll shoot the sarge and you'll lose a PP and PW or whatever. Wasting points is a sin to the Imperium. They're to expensive. By another Chimera or something instead, it will be much better for the points.

Drop the Priests, as stated they'll die before they get used.

Drop the Heavy Bolter Sponsons on the Vendetta. It's just silly! It's an anti-vehicular vehicle with heavy bolters. It doesn't make any sense. Indeed, I believe that it will fly backwards in the sky and the roar of its engines will sound more like 1,000 meowing kittens

By as many guns as possible!
