I'm thinking of starting a DH army and would like to include some IST. The problem is that standard Stormtroopers are kind of expensive, so would having regular Cadian shock troopers taking their place be too far of a stretch? I could always grab a box of Kasrkin but they seem spendy as well.

I used to use Cadians as IST, and I had no problem with using them. As long as I made it clear what they were then my opponents didn't mind.

However, it may help to add a bit of personality to the squad, to make them look more unique. I recommend the Forge World Cadian Veteran kit, give the troops as much kit as possible, as befits their Stormtrooper role.

The only issue with getting the Forgeworld bits is that at that point your Cadians will probably cost more than the metal Stormtroopers.

I wouldn't mind too much, especially if you used the rebreather heads from the Cadian command squad box.

I used cadians for 2 squads of my ISTs (23 all up).

Fortunately, though, I had also recently got a bits bag which contained 20 vox-pack and helmet sets (from the old Cadian shock trooper 20man boxes).

ISTs have hellguns (which are lasguns powered from a backpack power supply). I ran 22g hookup wire from the packs to the guns (cut off, drilled the magazine well to take the wires).

Others (I have 6 squads of Stormtroopers/ISTs all up) have Pig Iron visor helmeted heads and backpacks instead of the cadian sets).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
