This is my first post here, so hello everyone. I am looking for some constructive advice as I will be buying almost every model in the next week and going on a mad gluing my fingers together spree. This is my first space marine army (normally play eldar, but brother has them for painting so can't use them ). I would ask for advice from the players around here but all 3 game stores here are hosting the 'Ard Boyz and don't want to tip my hand too much.

(Edited List) - Now it is an assault descent list
HQ (420)
Dante
Librarian - terminator, ss, Sanguine sword, unleash rage, epistolary

Elite: (920)
Priest x 5 - jump pack
Assault termies - th/ss x 6
LR Crusader - MM, extra armor

Troop: (685)
2 x 10 man Assault Squad - PF x1, PW x 1,Melta Bomb x 2, Melta Gun x 4
Sanguinary Guardx 2 - PF & IP
Sabguinary Guard - PF, IP, & Banner

OK retooled the list thanks to everyone's input. Focused it more on assault and still managed to get what I was looking for with deployment and able to handle a vehicle or troops. I am looking for this because the shop I plan to play at is primarily guard, bugs, and SM. I also added three more scoring units to the list giving me between 5-7. Dante will be going in the chapter banner squad.

pros that I can see:
Very mobile
Option to deepstrike everything - potentially avoiding 2 rounds of shooting, but at least 1
FNP on all units now but termies
Higher model count
Costs less to buy
cons:
Could end up coming in piecemeal allowing enemy to really concentrate fire
Really will have to think alot more with this list
all close range weapons

Thank you Nine_breaker for the unleash rage idea.

Look forward to hearing more from you folks.

Hey alphawuf.

The list looks pretty good, but at 2500 points you're really lacking in scoring units. Most games are objective based and if your opponent takes out your two assault squads the best you can hope for is a draw. They are really resilient due to the priests, but a well placed plasma cannon and it's lights out. I've seen a lot of people use 5 man assault squads in razorbacks for cheap long range support that can sit on one of your home objectives. Also, assault squads really get to shine once they take 2x special weapons. Try to find room to put meltaguns into those squads so they'll be able to pop a tank and assault the unit inside afterwards.

If you're trying to save points you may want to try dropping the chaplain and just use the Unleash Rage power instead on your Librarian. Otherwise I like the deathstar squad you have in the LR.

For your armor you have a couple options. If you want to go the flamer template route, I suggest going flamestorm and HB sponsons on your Baal Preds. The Baal is really relying on the fact it's fast to get into the enemy's lines, so chances are you're going 12 inches to get to an enemy in cover and then you're only firing one gun. Might as well make that gun count and that way you can fire HBs as you advance. The attack bikes are really a suicide squad, so for similar points it might be better to run another AC/LC sponson Predator to soften things up for your advance.

Good luck with the list!

Eye of Terror. 'nuff sed

The lack of scoring units is disturbing . I would take off the deathcompany and get more regular assult marines. Also Dante is a very good HQ choice, and it would be great to take some Sanguinary Guard as scoring units. I also reccomend taking off the termies as you can have some furiosos that cost less and preform the same job. always thought that assult termies are too pricey and too good and will just about take on anything.

Hope I helped!

2 assault squads with jetpacks won't cut it in 'ard boys, a couple cover save ignorning shots from a Colossus will mean you have no scoring troops.

Death company is too small to really be a huge threat. And only 1 deathstar means that it can be taken out, you need 2 at 2500 points.

I think you need to decide if you want to mech up, or go all foot. A hybrid just doesn't do well. Either you have 3 vindicators & 2 or 3 predators, plus a ton of assault squad razorbacks. Or you have the total jump pack heavy foot list that launches the largest multiple assault you've even seen with a 20-30 man death company unit leading the way.

At that points level I'd look at a Land Raider BA army. While a bunch of small Assault squads in Land Raider variants wouldn't win much favour in most GT's, it looks as though Ardboyz lists are all about min-maxing. It's an expensive army in dollar terms though - much more so than your list.

I like the new list much better than the original. The only real problem I see with the list is your reliance on DS. The piecemeal factor could kill you. I know you are trying to get a list set so you can buy it but if you could find some way of play testing before you buy I would suggest it. If not I still suggest you play test the list before going to the Ard Boyz first round. I talk about play testing lists in a more in depth manner on the website linked in my signature. Check it out I think it may help you prepare, especially since you are playing an army which is entirely new to you.

I am quite used to the limits of DS as i also have a demon army. I really only plan to DS against guard, otherwise I will only be DS a unit or two.

Also in my brothers defense, I have gotten about half my models back painted and they do look great.
