My opponent Keith who is running IG with Strakka won the dice roll and elected to set up and go first. His two troop choice were 2 massive units at 30 models each, which he elected to place the first 30 man center straight across the board and the second 30 man about 12 inches behind that semi circled around the ruined building. The runined building held his HQ which was Strakka and retinue in a Chimera.

My entire force was placed in reserves. While this mission is great mission for me, the amount of terrain along with his troops, will make deepstriking rather difficult.


Turn 1

IG Seeing that I had no force being deployed, he used this turn to call back his troops to form a tighter bubble around his HQ and the 2 ruined buildings. where he will bring in his reserves and limit my deepstriking. Strakka was barking orders left and right as his troops moved double time.

World Eaters Still falling through the atmosphere, reving our chainswords on the descent.

Turn 2

IG HIs reserves brought in a Manticore which he flanked with, thanks to Strakka to my right in my deployment zone. Leman Russ, Chimera full of Auto Cannons and Vandetta entered his protective bubble of troops, making sure I have no where to Deepstrike with in 6" of them.

World Eaters 5 Assult Units come down this phase, with both apothacarians and Librarians. 2 + Apoth + Lib Units come down to his far left flank behind a building. 2 Units +Apoth + Lib come down to his far right flank and 1 unit in my deployment zone to deal with manticore. All 5 units scatter with a unit on my far left and my far right entering into difficult terrain, each unit has only fatality from doing so and unlucky for me it was a sergeant with Inferno and PF from both units! Only 2 units had range with melta guns, first was againt the manticore which I was 3" from and melted it. Second target was the Chimera with the unit of Auto Cannons, 2 Melta Gun shots and both missed, inferno pistol was more then 3" got the hit, only a glance but imobilized it.

Turn 3

IG His reserves he brought in another Vandetta which flanked to my far left deployment zone. Chimera with Melta squad and Leman Russ came in near my 2 units of the far right side. This turn was the turn that really hit me hard, since both Battle Cannons landed perfectly on 2 squads that were piled up from deepstriking hitting 9 models on each Battle Cannon. Each Cannon took out 4 models, luckily shield of sanguinis and a few 1's on his to wounds made it less painful. His lascannons and Melta guns missed or again saved by the shield. Then I was rocked with so many damn flamer templates, hvy flamers, auto cannons, grenade launchers and about 50 las guns... the amount of wounds was amazing and it was was of those morale moments in a game where things look bleak. This is when fortune turned the tables, the amount of power armor saves followed by Feel No Pain became my MVPs.

World Eaters Time for retribution, time to die. My last unit comes in from reserves to catch the Vandetta in my backfield. Again I scatter ( all 6 units scattered this game ) but was still in 6" for the melta gun pens but both melta guns miss and again its the pistol at str 8 that earns a glance and vehicle can't fire. The 2 units on his far right and 2 units on the far left forgo shooting except to Blood Lance so I have targets in charge range ( starting in difficult terrain with jump packs sucks and had to go by foot to avoid taking a test ). Hand to hand is glorious, Leman russ can't move, 30 man unit is wiped out ( being so far strung out reduced the amount of people he had to return attacks ) and another unit with my Apoth + Lib are stuck in melee as he made his leadership check on one of his back squads. Now sadly in my multi charge on the leman russ, the squad I hit, which I thought was a much larger squad was wiped out leaving me exposed.

Turn 4

IG Snake eyes on his last 2 reserves ( Vandetta and Chimera with Plas vets ). His Vandetta in my backfield jets 20" or so away from my assult squad. His 2 Leman Russ's were quiet this turn with 1 missing and the other killing 3 from the far unit that killed the Manticore that just entered his deployment zone last turn. Again he unloaded Flamers, Auto Cannons, Hvy Flamers and Grenade Launchers but the melta in the Chimera had nothing to shoot at in range. Again the apothicarians and shield of Sanguinis in combination of power armor worked over time to my opponents dismay. After unloading into the squad with my Lib + Apoth he killed everything in it but those 2 who end up joining the other assult squad by the Leman Russ in my next turn. Hand to Hand is finally resolved where my Lib + Apoth + melta gun and reg trooper wipe out a 30 man squad who were stretched out to far and made a stupid amount of saves.

World Eaters Chainswords reving loud to demoralize the guard as jump packs sailed through the air crashing down with death. The assult squad in the backfield chased down the vandetta and was able to only get to models base to base combat after wiffing on the melta shots. Needing 6s to hit the Crack Grenade missed but the Sergeant with PF soared up to the cockpit and said " Here's Johnny!" thumping it down into a glorious burning reck as his 3 6's to hit followed by immolized on the pen. The far left Leman Russ takes more melta fire blowing off its turret, Immobilizing it and stunning it and the Vandetta takes a stun. The right of the field Chimera with squad of auto cannons is wrecked by Blood Lance but with the squad inside deployed out of it behind the building left me to charge the other Chimera with Strakka that was in the ruined building with the PF making short work of it.


Turn 5 and 6

At this point, my opponent gets his reserves in, fires his remaining units. While I loose a few models, my saves just further drive in the loss and eventually he is tabled in turn 6. He finally knocked out my far right squad ( 3 where there ) with the Lib and Apoth with only those 2 alive to set up the kill from the vandetta. 2 Las Cannon Shot hit and wound but he had to shoot through my assult squad that came up from deployment zone that killed the manticore earlier and that gave each a 4+ save which they both made. Strakka, 2 Chimeras ( Blood Lance finally killed a vehicle! ) Vandetta # 2, Plas Squad, Auto Cannon Squad, Melta Squad both Leman Russ are finally destroyed. Vandetta #3 is still alive but is some what cornered in my deployment zone if he wanted to drag it out a few more turns but he wanted to just end it at this point.


MVPs:

Strakka This guy is simply amazing. He makes the IG so mobile and helps greatly to overcome their BS 3 on so many of their troops.

Leman Russ The Battle Cannon was a nightmare for me to overcome. Especially on the Deepstrike where I am all piled up and his troops and terrain preventing me from dropping in for the close melta shots.

Apothicarian Feel No Pain is crazy good with power armor. Furious charge is just icing on the cake. Sadly I found it rather hard to keep 3 squads in range per Apoth but I guess I only needed 2 as 4 assault squads were taking the entire brunt while ther other 2 were making sure the Manticore and Vandetta that fanked didn't cherry pick me from a distance. This gives me new found respect for Death Guard armies out of CSM.



After Thoughts

The World Eater list is simple. What I liked about this army is its mobility and durability. This mission I played while a great mission in theory for me, the amount of terrain coverage on the board worked against me on the drop and the turn after to get out of it. The Apothicarian was simply clutch and made the impossible very possible and that was to endure the ungodly amount of fire that IG can lay down. Still a lot more testing is needed but I'am contemplating about switching out my 1 Assault squad and 2 Apothicarians for x2 Honor Guard Jump Pack squads, but still to early to say for sure. The Honor Guard squads would allow the Apothicarian to be built in for free and no longer would they be able to be singled out and the squad would be small and very customized to what I need. Again I need get in a lot more games to say for sure.
