I'm pretty pumped for this. I'd like to build a 7. Panzer Division Panzerkompanie with Czech-made Panzer 38(t)'s at some point...hopefully there's support for that kind of list in this book (I'm guessing there will be since it includes the invasion of France and there's even Czech-made tanks in the photo there ).
Early War should be pretty sweet, really. I just hope Battlefront finds the time to release some stuff for the Balkans campaign. Greek minis would be awesome.

I'm hoping for Dutch army releases myself. You can't re-enact the Blitzkrieg without ignoring the Low Lands.

Some Dutch army forces would be nice too. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult. Battlefront has quite a bit of support for minor Axis allies like Romanians, Hungarians, and Finns, so I don't think it'd be very far-fetched for them to include a few units from the Dutch and Greek armies, and other smaller allied armies.
I'm crossing my fingers for Free French and French Foreign Legion when they do EW North Africa. Some DAK minis with pith helmets would be a nice touch too. The possibilities are pretty sweet! Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, if you're looking for Dutch minis and don't want to wait for Battlefront, Peter Pig has a pretty decent line here.

Looking good.
I hadn't picked FoW up yet because of the lack of some early war rules and minis but now i have an incentive too.
Looks like i will be getting my hands on some polish and French forces.
I also like the idea of the market garden board game as well.

I recently got to tour BF's studio and saw loads of EW stuff. I'm under NDA but it all looks great. From what I could gather, minor forces are widely loved by the staff there so over (lots of) time I dont doubt there will be more.
Just nice to hear early war is on schedule more than anything. Not looking forward to painting loads and loads of infantry, but definitely looking forward to seeing how it all looks together on the table.

Whatever this ends up meaning in the long run, I'm guessing it will be good. That's pretty awesome you got to tour their studio, legoburner. How did you swing that? Do they let anyone tour the place, or do you have to be someone famous in the miniatures biz (Like a Dakka Admin ) to get such exclusive opportunities?

Didn't the Dutch, early in the war, only have two tanks? These French WWI relics, one of them not functioning and in a museum and the other one falling of a dike? Then the whole battalions of bicycles and soldiers running around with muskets .

Bad little Renault tanks yes, bicycles yes, the muskets bit is a tad over the top though. Despite what others might say we Dutch did acquit ourselves well in the early days of the war. Otherwise they wouldn't have bombed Rotterdam as an example.

I was in Auckland last week and put up a message on their forums asking if it is ok to visit. I got a reply and an invite (dakka helped but I think they offer it to anyone who has come from the other side of earth). They then kindly gave me a tour of the studio, games area, photography area and I got to meet John Paul. Had to sign an NDA before anything, but they were all very nice and there were no secrets. Got to see some cool stuff, and had a nice chat with quite a few members of staff.

Their was 1 Renault tank of WW1 vintage, but it was out of action. Their were however some 20-30 armoured cars. One of the most modern parts of the army was the anti-aircraft units, which shot down huge numbers of Junker transport planes.

Actually, I think the Panzer I is one of the few tanks that would take the Boys AT Rifle very seriously!
And besides, you've got lots of other tank options. Panzer II's, Czech-made Panzer 35(t)'s and 38(t)'s, early versions of the Panzer III, early versions of the Panzer IV, etc. All kinds of fun stuff!

Those Machine gun platform Panzers are great in a low AT realm.
We played early war with French vs Germans. These were the EW rules available from the BattleFront site a few years back.
Had a couple CharB's(I think) and French were on the move down a road.
The German Blitz came from the side and those little PanzerI were awesome.
It really felt like how the history shows talk about it. And even though the French were outclassed, the game didn't feel out of reach.
I am really looking forward to these releasing. I haven't bought a book from htem since Ostfront.

True. It IS the 38(t)'s in the picture. Actually there aren't any Panzer I and II showing on the page, which is pretty weird.
These French WWI relics, one of them not functioning and in a museum and the other one falling of a dike?
Bad little Renault tanks
Their was 1 Renault tank of WW1 vintage, but it was out of action.
Never play FoW myself, so I don't really know the rules, but from the real history I think you underestimated the French tanks. True they are out-dated in the scope of the whole war, but during 39-40 when the major armours in Panzer divisions are Panzer I and II, B-1s are fairly superior in firepower and protection. The main reason why low land countries and France failed is their old-style way of scattering tank units into infantry divisions as battalion-level infantry-support facing German's concentrated armour forces and the fatal flaw of single-man turret and engine problems. Other than that, B-1s are arguably the best tanks on allies' side during the early period of WWII.
What surprised me the most that picture with R-35s (left 2) and B-1s (right 2) crowded together. B-1s are heavy tanks and R-35s are light infantry-support tanks, belong to different combat units; not to mention it could only be possible to happen when De Gaulle was in command of the French armour forces shortly before the fall of France.
Interesting they includes British expedition force and Matilda cruise tanks. Strong foes to early German tanks, too. At least until Panzer III came out shortly. Panzer IV came out at the start of Operation Barbaroosa, and seldom saw combat on Western front until the Normandy Landing.
AT rifles ARE serious threat to early Panzers (I and II, though there're records III got penetrated in rear armor.)
Maybe because during '39-'40 there were no Tigers or Bazookas yet?
Good lord! QFT.
