Well, today I managed to get rid of the rest of those pesky LOTR models that have plagued my shelves for a long time, and managed to score some FOW models from an older gent that was getting completely out of FOW. So we traded and I ended up with the following.

Now here is where it gets fun... I am NOT a FOW player and I have no clue as to everything that I have. I was told that it was a east front German recon force. The models are pretty beat up and most are not painted, so its going to take a little TLC to get this play worthy.

What I am asking of Dakka, is to help me ID everything that I have, and if possible build a list and decide if its worth my time... or if I should just Feebay the lot. I don't want go out buying a codex yet until I have it zeroed in some. Hate to waste money on something I can't use lol.

Thank you for your time and enjoy.

That's quite a bit of stuff. I'm pretty exhausted right now so I'm not going to go through it all, but I'll try to get online tomorrow and help you catalog it more specifically.

Suffice to say though, you do have enough to use to make a decent army. You could build a solid Grenadier or Pioneer company with that, even Panzergrenadiers if you were so inclined. You might want to pick up a few more things at some point, but you do have a really solid selection to start out with.

Well what ever it was it wasnt recon lol

As Hordini has said you've got more then enough to do an Infantry Company there. If your not going to buy anymore sell the Tiger, you wont need it.

I would go for a Pioneer Company with attached Anti tank and Anti Air platoons.

4 of those AT guns are Russian 76.2mm pressed into German service. The other 4 are PAK 40 75mm.

The two with sandbags are 88s.

You've got two Pioneer Halftracks (the ones with the two small bridges) 4 standard 251's and two 250's which are good for command vehicles.

The three armoured cars look like Sdkfz 233's with the short 75mm, they could be used as an attached recon platoon.

You've got three Marder 111Ms, thats an attached Panzerjager platoon possibly.

The Kfz7 halftracks with 37mm gun are anti air.

The two large halftracks with the trucks are Sdkfz 7's and are used to tow the 88's.

You could make a good force with that.

In that pile of infantry, while it looks like you have a fair amount of crew, I am also guessing that its pioneers as well, given the multiple Goliaths I see there. Also, looking at your bases, I see 4 man and 5 man. I think the convention is one of each for pioneers whereas grenidiers are 4 and 4s.

Definately able to build a pioneer list. You might want to keep your eye out for individuals with flamethrowers. That might be the only thing you would need to jump into Pioneers, though I am guessing those NIB pioneers will have some.

That amount of AT guns might also let you play a 78 Sturm list although i think those use strictly PaK 40's.

I just wanted to add a little bit to what Aldramelech and Shotgun already said.

The smaller AT guns are actually PaK38s (not Russian PaK36(r)'s). The bigger ones are PaK40s.

I'm pretty sure the three self-propelled AT guns are Marder I's, not Marder IIIMs. They look kind of similar, but the crew compartment on the Marder I is different, and they have different stats in-game.

Other than that, as far as I can tell the units have all been correctly identified. You can check out the Battlefront online store if you need clarification or comparison photos.

As far as list building goes, an infantry company (i.e. Grenadierkompanie) or Pioneer (i.e. combat engineer) company is what you'll be able to build with this. You also probably have enough trucks to make motorized Panzergrenadiers if you wanted. You could do armored Panzergrenadiers or Panzerpioniers if you got a few more half-tracks.

Also, just to clarify, it doesn't actually matter how many men are on your infantry bases. Battlefront gives guidelines for full-strength squads in their books, but many people use one or two fewer figures to represent battle-hardened units that have taken casualties, or just to save on the number of minis required. I personally usually only put up to four minis on my bases, because I find that medium bases with five infantrymen on them look quite crowded. So four men vs. five men on a base doesn't really make a difference as to whether you run Grenadiers or Pioneers. The main thing you want to look for is how they are equipped - pioneer teams will usually have one or more figures carrying extra explosives or other equipment. That said, people don't usually look that closely at infantry, and if you had only Grenadier figures but decided you wanted to run them as a pioneer company, it's likely that either no one would notice or no one would care. Flames of War players in general tend to be slightly less concerned with specific infantry equipment, as long as you explain what's what and things like heavy weapons and vehicles are clearly WYSIWYG.

Hordini is correct. I looked at the gunshield on the nearest PAK and it looked like it had a flat gunshield, on closer inspection I can now see its a trick of the light, its not flat. As for the Marders, damn your eyesights better then mine, I cant make em out other then the fighting compartment is at the rear which is why I said 3M's. Having stared long and hard (my eyes hurt now!) I can see their not on a 38T chassis so not 3M's.

Hordini can you make out what the two vehicles on the far left of the trucks are? I cant make them out at all.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Better pics of the models in question will be posted as soon as I upload em to photobucket.

Stay tuned.

Ah, cool. The first model is what I thought it would be: just another kind of truck. The model on the bottom is indeed a Marder I.

It's interesting though, the Marder I doesn't look like a Battlefront sculpt (unless it's a really old one). Do you know which manufacturer it's from? It doesn't matter at all for game purposes, I'm just curious.

I was told everything was BF.. though to be honest I am sure that it is ALL old runs of models. The guy I bought it all from has been playing I think since FOW started.

It's probably just the older version then. I'm not as familiar with the earlier versions of the slightly more arcane vehicles. It really doesn't matter, I was just curious. They are nice models (I actually like some of the older BF stuff more than the current resculpts).
