Hi all,

I used search but couldn't find an answer. My question is specific SM codex like Blood Angels, for example, what can they use from the main codex? Aside from house rules...

Can they use Telion?
Can they use the Thunder Fire Cannon?
Can they use any HQ listed in the SM codex for any reason?

The argument I hear is whatever isn't listed in the Blood Angels codex can't be used, but is this entirely true? I see Some Space Marine chapters like BT and DA running Telion, yet he's only listed in the main SM codex. On one hand I agree since it's a new chapter and doesn't really need anything, but on the other hand how do players use their other models like TFC not listed in BA codex?

Thanks in advance

Short answer is no. If it isn't in the Blood Angels codex, you cannot put it in a Blood Angels army.

The same thing applies to people running Dark Angel, Space Wolves and Black Templar (and vanilla SM) codices too. Each is completely seperate and you cannot use anything from a different codex in your army.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

They cannot use anything.

The reason BT etc can uuse items found in other codexes is they are a "supplement" codex, meant to be used in conjunction with the main SM one.

Blood Angels, like SW, DA etc, have a *full* codex. Nothing outside of the codex can be used.

In short: it doesnt say you *can*, so you *can't*

WEl, BT possibly are - you know they are if they lack "standard" units like Predators etc.

@nosferatu1001 - are you thinking of the old Codex:Armageddon supplement?

They haven't been able to use stuff from the main dex since they got their own book AFAIK.

BT have a stand alone codex. The only reason they should be using anything from the SM codex if they have a BT "painted" army and are playing them as a "count as" army using only the SM codex. Other then that maybe house rules?

Oops, that would be Friday tiredness kicking in, and old-fart syndrome

Certainly DA cannot use anyone such as Tellion, you really should correct people on this - DA havea FULL codex. In fact I think *all* SM "supplement" codexes now have full books, so noone should be going outside their own book!

Yep, SW were the last suplement codex left and they've been updated now.

I guess that OP (or the people he plays with) is thinking of the 3rd edition chapter codexes.

@OP:
Get the New codex, crack that thing open, and then see for yourself.

The BA don't have to take anything out of the C;SM codex as they have pretty much what? 70% of the same units.../facepalm.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

The only way something like this could legally happen is if you are using allies via either the Daemonhunters or Witch Hunters books. At least outside of 'Ard Boyz. Otherwise, if it is not in your army's book, you can't use it.

BT and DA cannot use Telion or any of the other cool leaders in C:SM. Black Templar is not a supliment codex and neither is Dark Angels. If they are using him in a Black Templar army, their list is illegal.

GOD I wish I could though

But as be stated you can't use stuff not in your codex. So yeah no thunder flare cannons for BA. Just like no Storm Ravens for anyone else!

Yeah I have it and it's a great read lol. I was asking for a friend that bought my Ultra Smurfs last year and is now running BA. He has been using Telion, Shrike, and the TFC up until now so I just wanted better clarification on what could be used.

I agree, though, that complete codex shouldn't/don't need to use anything outside their codex.

Thanks

EDIT: I threw in BT and DA since I've seen a few armies running Telion, but it makes sense that they wouldn't be included.
