Total - 989 points

The First noble is to be on his own and run all around the board, in cover, behind cover, in wood, here there and everywhere since he has a 9 inch movement and does not suffer the -1 hit penalty, combine that with 4 shots a turn, and he is good at thinning down units that are close to taking panic tests. His main aim is to wait until all the other units have fired, and then put his arrows in any squads close to panicing. And with a 9 inch move its unlikely anything on foot is going to catch him.
The second noble goes with the glade guard to give them some combat resolution since when they enivitablty get charged they will lose by less, plus he isn't too bad in combat with 3 attacks.
The third noble goes with the scouts and once close enough is going to use those 3D6 S4 shots to good use.

The glade guard form the core of the army and shooting at anything in range.
The dryads act as counter charge unit, charging something in the flank if they charge the guard, or before they reach them.
The waywatchers are either going to go scouting off around the board to shoot at enemy war machines or units that need thinning down.
The scouts are going warmachine hunting (or getting behind enemy lines to ruin their battle plans).

I think the list is pretty solid for an almost all ranged list, tell me what you think .
(Please not suggestions that completely ruin the make-up of the list, if you think ranged lists are uneffective, please post anyway but do not post suggestions to turn the list on its head)

On the perfumed wind

Alright, here's my 2 cents on the matter. Bear in mind that this is playing against (several times), but not as Wood Elves.

Characters
At 1000 points, 3 heroes is getting to be too many. It reduces how much of the rest of the army you get (for instance- as someone who enjoys shooting, you can get most of another glade guard unit for the price of your BSB.

Right now your general has to be your Scout kindred, as Alter nobles and BSBs aren't permitted to be your general. He should also get a mundane great weapon. He has plenty of attacks and a long charge, so applying those 4 strength 6 attacks can be very handy in the right place.

Finally your BSB is pretty fragile and may end up giving away more than he helps. He might be handy for dryads in close fights, but generally you don't want to be in hand to hand anyways, so he's not the strongest choice. If you're totally committed to him, you are permitted to give him a magic item, so I'd find the points for that.

Unit upgrades

In my opinion, champion upgrades are rarely worth it in shooting units. You can keep them if you especially like the concept, or think it will be a good modeling opportunity, but my preference would be to lose them.

I think I would nix the idea of standards in the units as well. With only a single strength 3 attack each, you will likely lose regardless against whatever you're fighting. A standard has the liability of giving 100 extra victory points if you break and are pursued. Be more 'guerrilla' and flee
charges, stranding the bad guys in woods, or countercharging with dryads (which is a fine tactic).

Musicians you can leave on if you don't need the points elsewhere. They help you rally in cases where you're fleeing charges, but may not be necessary.

Units
Scouts are kind of expensive for what they do, and you already have waywatchers for march blocking and scouting. I'd suggest taking points savings elsewhere and trading these for glade-riders. Also a very expensive choice, but with higher speed and spears to charge with (as cavalry), you have the same number of shots but are better at war-machine hunting.

Just some suggestions, and if you feel they alter the character of your list too much, then feel free to ignore them.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I would agree with all of RZ's advice.

A common, but good alter noble build is hail of doom arrow, helm of the hunt, and GW. The doom arrow is used to soften up the unit and then he can charge the next turn with 5 str.6 attacks.

What are you willing to change? Do you already have these models? There is a list floating around here already that is based from the battalion box. One problem with your general being with the scouts is his leadership is going to be away from your main battle line. Granted with WE that line is going to be moving all the time.

I would probably drop the standard bearer, the commands, and the scouts and use those points for something else.

Maybe this list.

Noble - steed, LA, shield, spear, and magic items maybe annoyance of netlings and murder of spite or merciw's locus, or just keep the bow of loren. = about 145 to 150
Noble - alter, Hail of Doom arrow, Helm of the Hunt, and GW = 154
10x Glade Guard = 120
10x Glade Guard = 120
10x Glade Guard = 120
5x Glade Riders = 120
8x Dryads = 96
5 Way Watchers = 120
Total = 1000

You should probably try out boogeyman's list, its a pretty soild list with good ranged and close combat capabilities. Plus most of the stuff you get from the starter so it will save you money

Here is another list I made up with just the battalion and the great weapon noble model.

Noble - steed, light armor, shield, spear, and blight of terrors. (there are plenty of other builds that might be better)(maybe annoyance of netlings and merciw's locus) = 143 or (138)
Spellsinger - level 2, steed, dispel scroll, Calaingor's stave = 187
Noble - alter kindred, great weapon, hail of doom arrow, helm of the hunt = 154
12x glade guard = 144
12x glade guard = 144
6x glade riders = 144
12x dryads = 144
total = 1050
You can lose the 50 points by just dropping glade guard or dryads and changing the magic build of the general.

I think Boogeyman's lists are great suggestions! Although on this second one, and the OP's original list, I'd like to see just two heroes.

You can definitely go mostly-ranged with wood elves . They rock at it! A few units of dryads to counter charges can help it survive a lot of things that make it in close, too.

I would drop the heroes down to just one for 1000pts (with the one being a noble). Heroes eat significantly into your points and when 1/3 - 1/2 of your army is in 2 or 3 models it makes for a very small wood elf list.

I like the noble on a steed with helm of the hunt and hail of doom arrow (and spear etc). this gives him 4S5 attacks on the charge, highly mobile and the hail of doom arrow which is devistating at 1000pt.

I wouldn't go for the bow of lorien on a noble (even alter) at this points level as you are basically paying 137pts (in your original list) for 4S3 shots. I can get 11S3 shots for the same price and they are S4 at short range. far superior even taking into account the higher BS.

You obviously want to go for a shooty list so Glade riders are definately reccomended. Two units can add to your fire power, add a bit of combat punch (S4 flank charges negating ranks) and slow the enemy down. 1 unit works as well.

I would only take a unit of scouts or a unit of way watchers probably not both. If you go for scouts over watchers then an eagle would come in handy being able to slow the enemys army down.

I would also go for a unit of say 6/7 wardancers (muso as well and champ optional ) of the dryads. They are extremely versatile and can take on pretty much anything you see in 1000pts. I would have a unit of each if you have the points spare.
