Okay, so this came up the other night and it seemed off to me. Tell me what you think.

A tactical squad fails morale in it's opponents turn, then due to ATSKNF it regroups in its player turn of the same game turn. Does it count as moving for the purposes of firing heavy/rapid fire weapons.

As I read ATSKNF it seems to me that they should be able to fire thier weapons normally, but my opponents insisted (and was backed up by another player) that because the fallback move happened in the same game turn that they counted as having moved.

Can anyone help give me some clarity here as this interpretation of ATSKNF seems counterintuitive to the rules intended purpose.

Thanks in advance,

Eric.

ATSKNF makes marines regroup immediately. If they fall back on your turn, provided there's no enemy within 6", they regroup IMMEDIATELY, not at the start of their turn like most armies' units.

Because of this, on their turn they are free to move and do whatever they want. They are also free to choose not to move, and fire heavy weapons if they wish.

Game turn or whatever has nothing to do with it.

Just to clarify, absolutely nothing in the Codex says ATSKNF allows them to regroup immediately. It says they regroup automatically regardless of being below half strength or not (but still subject to things like being within 6" of an enemy).

So regrouping happens at the beginning of your player turn, just like everyone else.

Where does it state that the regroup is immediate? Under the ATSKNF it just says automatically, not immediately.

Oops, Smashotron beat me to it!

And cue the 6" vs. 9" regroup argument in 3,2,1....

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. Ah, I was quoting the old wording rather than the new one.

However the new one does say that "normally units that regroup cannot move, and count as moving whether they do or not, but such restrictions do not apply to units subject to this special rule" or something to that effect.

Thus, they don't count as moving unless you actually do.

Correct. I just wanted to clarify that Marines can still be walked off the board.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. I will argue harder next time and not let it happen again!
