Had another game in after the Tyranids againt my good friend playing Space Wolves. Most of his army was sold off after his Adepticon trip last month to a person who offered a large sum at the convention. so his army was limited.

10 Man tooled out Wolf Lord squad in Terminator Armor x2 Cyclones, 2 TH/SS. 5 LC + other goodies


World Eaters

Librarian x2 Jump Pack, Epistolary, Lance + Shield
Apothicarian x2 Jump Pack
x6 10 man Assault Squads x2 Melta Guns, x1 Infernus Pistol, x1 PF


5 Objectives are rolled, 3 on the SW players side and 2 on the WE side

Turn 1

Space Wolf Player digs in 2 Grey Hunter Squads into the ruins about 20 inches apart from each other, both with objective near. Shooting the only thing that goes off is Murd Huricane on a 10 man jump unit that I have placed at the center of the board with another 10 man unit to that units flank that has a Librarian and Apoth in it.

World Eater turn in limited, I try to get in range for an assault on a Grey Hunter unit in the ruins but they are on the second floor and not in range of a charge. So 8 Bolt Pistols + 2 Melta Shots and Blood Lance which makes it past the Rune Priests hood kills abou 5 and the unit breaks for 5". I dare not move my other unit that is inflicted with Hurricane.

Turn 2

Space Wolf rolls the rest of his army in and his Grey Hunters rally. After movement phase he shells away with Long Fangs ( Logan is attached to them and he gave them Relentless ), the Cyclones, a few more missle Launchers and the Dreads AC. I lose about 5 models, with either misses, failure on toughness or saves by the shield sparing me from a few missles and the Rending shot off the AC. His combi melta guns all fire with dismal results on hits and wounds. His Terminators are just short of charge by about a inch or so and elects to end his turn.


My reserves give me 3 of the 4 Assault units. We take a small break here as I asks if I can legally combat squad them on the drop. At this point we have a fairly decent size audience watching and everyone breaks out the rules on Deep Strike and Combat Squads. A point was made about combat squading from a drop pod due to special rules but we all agree thats to allow both squads to ride the same vehicle then we all agree that combat squads can be made on the drop.

So the 3 units are cut up into 6 combat squads and proceed to DS around the GH squad with a rune Priest and behind his Venerable Dread who is holding the far flank next to the Long Fangs with the GH squad + Rune Priest. I move my Lib and Apoth to the 10 man unit that moved into charge range of the GH squad with Rune Priest. Dread gets his AC blown off and immoblized from melta. Logan and Fangs take a charge from a slightly depleted 10 man with the Apoth and Librarian switching squads during movment and the other 10 man squad charges the GH + Rune Priest. Logan ends up with 1 wound left and kills like 4 in return but they hold in CC. GH + Rune Priest squad kills my Lib, my Apoth and a few more but they hold in CC.

Turn 3

Space Wolves opens up on the 5 man unit thats in between them and the GH squad in CC but fails to kill any and then blows them up in CC with no losses. Logan and Fangs have some horrible rolling and are now down to 2 Fangs and Logan ( logan used living legend this turn ). Rune Priest cuts down more along with his powerfist in the GH squad and my PF serg brings him down a few more GH.

Last squad with the Lib + Apoth comes down on my right objective. Combat squads move away from the Terminator Death Star charge range. Blood Lance is attempted and I take a wound for rolling box cars. CC end with the GH + Rune Priest and a couple World Eaters still alive. Combat squad charges in on Logan and few remaining fangs with Logan dieing to the PF sergeant.

Turn 4

Space wolves kill a few more with shooting and the GH squad climb back into the ruins to hold 2 objectives with the Terminators moving in between to support both squads as nothing is in assault range and picks off a few more with Cyclones.

Combat squad for the World Eaters dart around and shoot down the remaing GH squad with rune Priest and the rest Jump and run back to the two objectives on my side of the board.

Turn 5

Space Wolf player calls it GG as he said the game could be dragged out a few more turn should it go the distance but he cant contest the 2 objectives in my zone, doubtful he can contest the far left. So it was off to dinner then drop him off at his wife's parents house.


Notes: Not having many power weapons in my army keeps me locked in HTH vs other Marine Armies. The SW on the other hand had plenty. Hard to say which unit in my army was mvp. Librarians each took a wound for rolling Box cars. only 3 models kills with Lance for the entire game. Apothicarians FNP was rarely called upon due to all the power weapon attacks and range at str 8. Yet I can't discount their Furious Charge or their Shield of Sang which goes by un-noticed. So I will say my basic assault was my work horse and it wasn't some special character or crazy shooting that took down Logan but just a Serg with a PF working his invuln saves enough looking for bad rolls using his squad as ablative wounds.

Again thoughts of replacing an assault squad and both Apoth's with x2 5 man honor squads becomes more appealing. Dante would also make a good choice and pretty much guarantee a pefect Deep Strike and packs a punch in HTH and gives hit and run, all of which would work well in my list. Also an Elite Chaplain or two would be nice as well to provide more PW attacks and the reroll on misses

I was gonna say the same thing... World Eaters didn't have Librarians or really, jump pack troops for that matter.

Why don't people use world eaters as world eaters anymore?

Pre Heresy World Eaters had jump packs and to be honest no idea why they still don't have them in Chaos but I guess that would be too many troop selections in a single codex. As to pre-heresy Librarians. they most certainly did have Librarians.

In an event that sealed the fate of the World Eaters, Scyrak the Slaughterer, a World Eater hero, slew the Chief Librarian of the World Eaters – the last ward against the influences of Chaos.


Pre- Heresy World Eaters were just like any other dedicated assault marine chapter but were reknown for their combat prowess and brutal assaults. They had all resources that marine chapters had but hand to hand was their prefered way to wage war. Once Angron joined the chapter after being brought back by the Emperor they were surgically modified by being implanted with the bio-neural circuitry used to increase a warrior's aggression and strength. They then became the Emperor premier example of his angels of death by accepting even suicidal missions ( many times succeding )and through ferociously brutal warfare earned the most feared reputation. While I believe that the Blood Angels at the time never came close to being equals in close combat as the World Eaters I do believe Blood Angels for far superior in tactics, while Angron was more of a get it done philosophy. There is also history of competition between the World Eaters and Blood Angels during war fare on trying to out do each other and it was from here that I decided that the Codex will probably be the closest thing to a Pre Heresy World Eater army I will see from GW.


I am sure if you haven't followed the game since Slaves to Darkness back in the late 80's very early 90's, you would be correct to say this would be uncharacteristic to an extent. Even full blown Chaos World Eaters had Librarians. Chaplains, Medics, Tech Marines, Tactical and Devestator squads. Yet, as it does most time in the telling of a story, things change over time pending on who is telling it or how many times its told with each telling the author depicts in their own way.
