Quick situation came up while playing. If a weirdboy fails his psychic test can he then choose to run the unit he is with. I.E Weird boy with group of 20 boyz.

hmm. was it in the shooting phase?

As far as I know, no. you can't do anything but one action in the shooting phase.

if it was in the movement phase, well. different story.

Depends what phase the psychic test was in. If he was using a psychic shooting attack then he has declared to shoot rather than run in that phase and would not be allowed to run if he failed.

Weirdboyz don't decide their own powers. They must always try to cast a power at the start of their own shooting phase.
If they fail or use a power that isn't shooting (ie 4, 5 and 6 on the table) they can still run.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

Weirdboys test first, then roll on the table for a power. I don't see why they couldn't run if they failed the test or got a non-shooting power.

If they are not shooting, either because they fail the test or are not using a PSA, then they can run.

Ok thanks for the replies guys, though I kind of disagree that if he fails an action that had a chance of shooting in his shooting phase he is still allowed the option to run.

But rules are rules.

Not true in all cases...like for shrouding...if you try to shoot and can't...even though you didn't shoot you still can't go ahead and run
