Subject: How to paint yellow and White?

Hey, I am new to warhammer and have started to collect a Bretonnian army. And i want my knights to be bright and stand out. Just wondering what is a good way to paint yellow, I painted my peasents yellow, I used the yellow foundation paint then painted it golden yellow. It looks ok on the peasents but you can see every brush stroke when used on horses or larger areas, and it isnt as bright as i wanted either. Has anyone got any good ways to paint yellow, same with white, its a nightmare trying to get the white cloth of the horses to look half decent. Any tips, pics or advice would be much apresiated.
Cheers

I suggest using a white basecoat for bretonnia knights. If you want bright yellow or simply white this will definately make things easier for you. Should be no problem to get bright enough colours this way. Of course the consequence will be that you have to paint all metal parts etc. with black first but ahh well

Thanks for the reply, will try the white undercoat. Was wondering how you shade and highlight them as well, just add skull white to the yellow for highlights? Dont have a clue what to do for white ha.

A trick I saw in a WD magazine for models that need to have a light color (like yellow) and also a dark color (like black) that the way to do it is to:
1 - prime in white
2 - cover the areas that will ultimately need to be a light color (use modeling putty)
3 - with the putty on, spray again in black
4 - remove putty and paint!
I saw this used to paint bretonnian horses - they were a stunning contrast when done - a bright yellow/black theme.
Additionally, regarding the yellow, I like Sunburst Yellow myself - I find it to be very bright - but don't be afraid to experiment with non-GW paints if you can't find something you like.
Re: lots of brushmarks on finished models - I suspect that you have too much paint on the brush. Try it with less paint. Take your time. It is better to do more than one coat of yellow rather than just one coat where you try to get lots of paint on at once.
Good luck! Feel free to post some pics for the rest of our Self-Declared Dakka Experts to enjoy and critique!

Well the easiest way to shade when you got a white basecoat would probably be to use one of those new citadel washes (havent used them that much yet so I don't know which one that would be appropriate for yellow) or just make your own by thinning down maybe bubonic brown or a mix of bubonic and golden yellow etc. You seem to have figured out how to highlight with yellow yourself, as you said, just add some more white to it

If I have to do a model that is significantly orange or yellow I spray them yellow and brush paint everything else. My fire dragons were sprayed yellow then dull coated. I then washed orange/red ink onto the areas that needed to be orange, brushed other details like guns, grenades and fiddly bits, and washed the helmet and other yellow bits with yellow/flesh ink. Add a little highlighting and "Voila!, nice bright models with a smooth finish.
