Tempest's Wrath states "all enemy skimmers, jetbikes, jump infantry and units deploying by Deep Strike that finish their move within 24" of the Rune Priest" etc. If jump infantry chooses to walk 6" and not use jump packs, is it still affected by this power? My feeling is that it is, because regardless of what it counts as moving as, the unit type is still for all purposes "Jump Infantry" and not "Infantry". Removing packs before the game specifically mentions becoming Infantry.

If walking would allow them to be exempt, would that mean that they were instead susceptible to Jaws of the World Wolf because they are counted as "Infantry" and not "Jump Infantry"? Seems it would have to be one or the other and RAW points to always counted as Jump Infantry, with the walking allowing them only to avoid the dangerous tests of naturally difficult terrain. But interested to hear other opinions.

No Jump Packs = Infantry, not Jump Infantry.

No packs = Can be hit by JotWW

Totally agree with that Gwar! but what about the other points? Units that kept the jump packs but chose to walk in movement phase can affected by Tempest's Wrath? If not, does that mean even with their jump packs they can be JOTWWed?

If they choose to walk they count as Infantry when they move, and that is it. So they cannot be affected by JotWW and are not affected by Tempest.

Not sure if I agree on that one but I don't have the rule book on hand so I will have to bow out for now. The Tempest affects any unit of type "Jump Infantry" until the Rune Priest next turn, so what about during the assault phase for example? RAW it would seem to cause the assault move to be difficult and dangerous because the unit is the "Jump Infantry" type and I'm not aware of any rule which states they count as Infantry during assault phase. Although I could obviously, and very likely may be wrong.

RAW they would still be affected. Making your move as infantry doesn't change their unit type, but RAI is prob they aren't effected due to the fluff of the spell.

RAW Tempest Wrath effects you if you Walk. It looks for unit types 'Jump Infantry' not units moving like jump infantry. A Jump Infantry unit walking doesn't magically change it's unit type.

Violence isn't the answer, I just like getting it wrong on purpose.

I agree with this...they still have the packs...they are still in fact "jump infantry"
