Looking for comments and criticisms on my 1500 pt all Death Company army. I am not interested in making a balanced army. I want a hammer that can only win by tabling an opponent. Without further ado, may I present:

HQ: Astorath = 220
T1: 5 Death Company (Jpacks, 2 PW, TH, Infernus) = 250 - Astorath's crew
T2: 5 Death Company (Jpacks, 2 PW, TH, Infernus) + Lemartes = 400
T3: 5 Death Company (Jpacks, 2 PW, TH, Infernus) = 250
E1: Chaplain (Jpack & Mbs) = 130
T4: DC Dread = 125
T5 DC Dread = 125

Total = 1500

My concern is that, without pods, the DC Dreads seem like more of a liability. Should I replace them with another DC squad or trim down my current squads to make points for the dreads. As you can see, I would like a chaplain type to lead each of my squads and I want them all to deep strike.

You are. Any ideas for improvement within the parameters set forth?

This list would get annihilated by anyone who packs plasma. Feel no pain isn't going to help you there. Death company dreads are good, but they're going to get chewed by every anti-tank weapon your opponent has.

I think jump packs are way too expensive for death company and I think you just need more bodies. Maybe rhinos are in order or two big marauding units with 20 members each.

Astorath removes the 0-1 cap on death company.

Yeah I agree with MEanBOb, the jump packs are WAY too costly. Put it into perspective, 1 DC jump pack = 15 pts while assault sqauds without jump packs get a -35 pt reduction on transports. That being said an assault squad Rhino = 15 pts. You are telling me ONE DC jump pack is worth the same pts as an entire rhino. The BA codex didn't do the math on that one!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also I just looked over your list 15 jump packs = 225 pts. You are spending more on packs then you are on Astorath which is crazy! Thats a second HQ choice worth of pts.

Incinerating your hopes

Drop the packs, get rhinos instead. Cheaper, faster, safer, and you don't go psycho and run after stupid things like gretchin or a lone tau fire warrior. Get more bodies.

20 models for 1500 points?

For 1500 points I can field 200 models. Are you suggesting that each one of your guys is worth ten of mine? I'd play that game any time.

- Frosty Hardtop - - 4000 points - - 1000 points and rising.

The new DC are really not worth their pts at the end of the day. I have only seen them successful a handful of times. The set up that I see win and I think makes most sense is just leave them stock and put 5-10 in a drop pod. Half way through a game drop em in and watch them wreck havoc. The enemy will have a harder time distracting them cause it's in the heat of battle. There will be lots of nearby enemy models and hopefully by that point in the game some squads will have been weakend so the DC should come in and mop up. They have enough survival power to make it through the rest of the game and if the enemy does decide to target them it frees up other units in your army to capture objectives and make smart plays while he is distracted. As far as giving them all the bells and whistles at the end of the day it never adds up.
