Does anyone use buildings in their everyday games?
I use them for planetstrike of course.
Just wondering if they are a nice addition to normal games. I mean, we do have a solid ruleset for them in the book....but, you never seem to hear about them.

We use ruins a lot, but not many proper buildings.
Personally I think the building (not ruin) rules are rubbish. I get that they just made them immobile vehicles for the sake of simplicity, but the idea of a single powerfist blowing up an entire bunker in one hit seems ridiculous.
I think it would make more sense to treat buildings like super-heavies with multiple structure points (hit points) depending on the physical size and the composition. So like a brick shed might have 1 structure point and a two story reinforced concrete bunker might have 3.
Maybe this would just make them OP or too complicated, but I think it would make it a bit more tactically realistic.

I've never actually used building rules. We use ruins and leave it at that.

Ruins just seem to be the easy way to go...being able to find easy ways of getting a 2+ cover from a building...can suck. It's just too game changing...

I mean I guess that is the balance issue. If buildings allow guys to hang out inside an AV14 transport with 3 structure points and just rain heavy weapon fire with impunity, it might be OP. Not sure.
Perhaps you could have embarked units vulnerable to template weapons? Or allow assaults into the building?

I play an mainly CoD, so most of my board is taken up by ruins. The intact buildings I do use don't have any fire points, except for the roof where you can be targeted normally, and cannot be damaged. Essentially 'safe' ground for a single infantry unit. It works well, and there's not enough of them to be game changing.

I have only ever used ruins, never buildings, in any game of 40k. The rules for them seem strange, they are basicly transports that can not move.

The more buildings the better I say, providing plenty of line of sight blocking against my Orks. Also because assaulting buildings is hilarious, especially when you get to see ur opponects face when you tell him your going to assault the building his unit is in .

I'm one of the people that like using buildings. It's mostly your army that determines how useful they will be. For example my DE get chewed up when fighting in cities. My IG on the other hand, love nothing more then to sit back inside and shoot out the windows. I use mostly home made models for building and you don't want more then 2 buildings per square foot even in a slow game.

I've used buildings in a few games, but most of the guys in my club seem to be easily confused by their rules and give up and play all buildings as ruins instead.
I've found one or two players who can and do play buildings as per their rules. They were fun games.
Buildings with structure would have to have a points cost to offset their effectiveness - or be used as an apoc unit.

They should totally have a bunker as a unit choice for IG.
Like, an immobile vehicle with av13 or 14 or something. With firepoints etc etc.
That'd be rad.
Like in normal games.

^^^ I can see some sort of airdrop-able enclosure, like a U-shaped segment of Aegis defense line you buy as an upgrade for a HWS or something, then place on turn 1, rolling for scatter. Be interesting to try out, experimentally, and I think it could be worked in easily enough, both mechanically and fluff-wise.

We're actually implementing it in a campaign soon.
It'll be an area that starts out fortified...and if things get wrecked...you can rebuild.
bastions and defense lines only exist in these fortified areas like landing pads.
