Common wisdom would suggest that when the new Inquistion book(s) come out, the allies rules will go, hence armies will lose access to mystics for use as DS defence.

Will this have an apreciable effect on the metagame? Specifically, will it make armies that rely on DSing (Daemons, some SM, Tau, Necron and Nid builds) more effective - or at least more likely to make an appearance now they don't have mystics to worry about?

Will this change swing the nerfbat at any of the better imperial builds?

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Daemons will still catch the nullzone. SM will fall back on the land speeder that messes with deepstriking. tau will still fail(sorry I wish it wern't true :( ) And nids will still be plasma'd to death. However you will get some shooting in!

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Using bubble-wrap, parking lots or reserve deployment are all more cost-effective solutions in all-comers armies than mystics anyway.

The loss of the mystics is not a MASSIVE blow to the IG, as they still have the Officer of the Fleet to delay enemy reserves. At most, it may lead people to replace some of their veteran squads with combined platoons and/or HWSs to take up board space and force mishaps on adventurous deep strikers. This isn't really a nerfbat, since the mixed vet/platoon lists are actually better then veteran spam. The loss of the Emperor's Tarot may reduce the number of lists built around solely the alpha-strike.

The biggest loss will be psychic protection, although I can't believe that they will make Inquisitors entirely unplayable, even if they just become a WD supplement. Of course, even after the GK codex, we still have the Witch Hunter codex for that sort of thing. They can still take the 20-point plasmagun grenadiers, and have access to the Hammer of the Witches or Divine Pronouncement powers. But again, there will likely be an Inquisitor supplement or update of some sort, so we'll still be able to get psychic hoods. I'll gladly sacrifice the unlimited range for a better character. The cheapo utility Inquisitor is extremely useful, but absolutely galling fluff-wise.

This, so very much. Tau and Guard are quite effective at being able to screen expensive artillery with cheap infantry. Kroot bubblewrap can infiltrate too, making it usable against Scout-rushes too, while being more effective against Deepstrikers.

I'm going to give this a "this" also...

My IG army isn't leaving mystics at home because I'm trying to be nice. I'm just too MSU to care about their ability. I neither have a single unit that is worth taking a free shot with, nor a single unit I care about getting killed by deep strikers.

I don't know a lot of space marine players that need it either, against a concentrated deep strike attack, marines would probably prefer to operate from reserve, and they already have their null zone for demons and their psychic hood for blood lance/warp lance.
