I've heard that too; no idea if it's true though.

Regardless P3 paints are awesome.

They're in the same bottle but that doesn't mean a whole lot - Forge World uses the same bottle for their pigments.

I'd read that Coat D'arms was the old citadel paint, actually.

I've heard the same. But I also heard the same about P3. All I know is that P3 paints are made of pure of fething win.

Coat d'arms IS the old citadel paint. They sell the old/same colours with new names, there should be a conversion list on the site
Have no idea about P3

Yeah Coat d'Arms is the company that used to supply GW with their paints.

This is how you can still get hold of the old legacy colours that GW cancelled when they brought in the new line - Amethyst Purple anyone?! ;-)

I have never heard that P3 paints are the same. I think PP are an american company (right?), so are unlikely to be using an independant, UK-based paint manufacturer.

I might check out these P3 paints, based on the comments above - are they really as good as people say?

On all P3 Paints I came across - was written "made in UK"

P3 are very good.

Since I'm lazy any chance of a link to US Coat de arms retailers?

Also try Ral Partha. Excellent paints and for about half the cost of GW (and IMO better). No US suppliers and direct from England is about 10 days from day of order to delivery so kind of slow.

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Partha paints was all I painted with for a long time, I used them for about 5 years but stoppen when I found the GW paints Coat D arms made. I can highly recommend the Coat D Arms paints. I use Vallejo paint almost exclusively now. Have not tried P3 yet but pretty sure they are their own maker and not from Coat D arms.

I know this is an old topic, but I have the real information here, so I thought I'd chime in.

Mike McVey has a favorite paint manufacturer, and they currently make three gaming lines- two of which are Coat D'arms and P3.

Mike worked for GW when they first started up their paint line- he pretty much headed that project. Much later, he worked for Privateer Press and started up the paint line for them. Both times, he got the same supplier to create the paint for them.

Not very many miniatures companies make their own paints (I believe Reaper is the exception here). Mostly they get companies that already make paint to supply them (and put their label on them).

Anyway- P3 and Coat D'arms are the same paints in that they are made by the same people, and will have similar qualities to them. They come in different colors, so they aren't totally redundant.
