Hey people,

Is it just me, or does everyone have a look down on marine players?

Especially kids, cuz when they start 99 percent of them play marines.

I kinda look down to them (which totally includes the old me who used to play marines with bad armies)

I know its not right, and there are really good marine players, but those overwelming marine conscripts(who freaking turned from DE and Taus to marines)just..well...overwelm me quite a bit.

So anyone had any similar experience?

How is that racism though?

Marines are alright at times it's just when they get spamed that I find it a bit annoying. I started with marines back when there wasn't any GW stores around here at all and without the hard selling for marines. I just liked the models, at first I thought they were some sort of robots, but it eventually became less and less interesting over time. I leave the game after around 2 or so months (4th was kind of boring), then I come back into the game a little over 4 years later (a few GW stores opened up/were buit and some friends want to get me back into it) and find that they're spammed all over the place.

Back then too Ultras still had the yellow rims on their shoulders and red weapons, I liked the blue but wanted something different to Ultras so I paint their armour blue, their weapons black and their shoulder rims gold. Surprisingly thats how the Ultra's colour scheme evolved while I was away from the game

After I get back in the game I repaint them and this time become interested in the story. Now after about a year and a half, I'm starting to get bored of 40k because of the amount of attention SM gets. I can understand they sell the most out of all of them but they don't really need so many books. So I continue to play Eldar while waiting for 8th ed WHFB to start up so I can take a break from all the marines. My SM army has been shelfed for about 6 months maybe a little more now.

I don't look down on them as they make an alright starter army, it's just that all the codices they get has kind of made 40k a little stale to me. I'm not even worried about the suposed OPness of the new Blood Angels codex, first game (and only so far) against them was a win for the Eldar

What the feth does this have anything to do with racism?

Anyway, there are a lot of Marine players I look down upon, but not primarily because they play Marines. It's just because they're crappy players.

Not in a "suck at the game" kind of way (well, they do, but that's irrelevant) but in a "why would anyone want to play against such a whiny opponent" kind of way.

I've had people (mostly marine players, but that's probably a good distribution since most players play marines) call my crons cheesy. I think Marines tend to attract people who like uber-Mary Sue characters and have an expectation of an easy victory as a result. To be honest, I see it a lot with Eldar players too.

I think the vast majority of decent, thoughful opponents I've played are all primarily Ork or IG players, but I have no idea why.

It could also just be that my FLGS is a weird outlier.

Dodgy thread title aside, the problem isn't marines, the problem is bad armies.

When you play against a good player with a well-thought out competitive list, or what I call a 'story' player with a theme to their army and a matching play-style you will have an enjoyable game experience (as long as you meet them on equal terms).

Things get even better when both armies are well painted and the game is played on a decent board.

If you play someone who doesn't fall into either of these categories, they tend to be someone who hasn't invested in the game (I don't just mean financially here). New players could fall into this category, but a game against enthusiastic new player who wants to learn is a rewarding experience in itself.

But playing those who don't want to get the most out of the game will lessen your enjoyment. In many if not most cases the people in this group will have marines, simply because they are so prevalent, but its these players that are causing the problem, not the marines they play with.

Well Tony , let me put this into the perspective of those "type" of children that plays space marines.

Have you ever seen those thread of other types of Space marines vs Games workshop space marines?
Ever seen the argument ( of all ages actually ) claiming how GW SM are better ad cooler purely because they are stronger and better armored?

So thinking about it , that type of mentality started from when they are children , and obviously they never grew out of it.
They simply think bigger and stronger is better. And SM just happen to fill that stereotype.

If someday GW invents some units that can fart nukes and puke acid and poop melta torpedoes i bet all the cool kids will want them.

Change the name of the thread. It's misleading.

I dislike Space Marines because it's usually the only army people that play where I play play. So I refuse to play as Space Marines or their assault buddies.
