Hi

I'm running IG Mech vet list at 1000pts to 1500pts.
I'm now thinking about modeling special sergeants for my list.

There is Haker and Bastonne.
Which guy is better for mech list?
I know both sergeants aren't best.
But I want to know better one.

Specials are bad for your health – as in usually cost more than a whole squad.

I've used both mechanized, and, trust me, their is NO use in having Harker. He has a HB, but the chimera can have some as well. Bastonne is perfect, though. armored fists tend to go far away from your CCS and PCS, so being able to use orders on his own squad is real handy. Since there wont be regimental standards or usualy lord commissars nearby, ld 10 is great. Harker is gd for infiltration, but not much else.

I prefer Harker but he doesn't mesh very well with mechanized. He grants his squad infiltrate, stealth and move through cover, none of which does any good on the inside of a chimera.

If you not looking for a highly competitive list, you could always grab him add grenade launchers and another heavy bolter for the squad and maybe throw a Primus Psyker in the chimera with him. It'd be hellaciously expensive you you could throw out 6+2d6 strength 6 and 3 strength 5 shots on a 6 inch move and another 6 strength 5 shots if you stay put.

well, harker was good objective camper for me. Add Heavy bolter, 3 sniper rifles, and you have nice 36 anti infantry squad. For mech list? I don't see place for him.

For me, niether. i'd rather spend the points on Marbo!
not to mention you're making an expensive squad even more costly.

Neither, although if I had to pick one, Bastonne is pretty awesome, he's a nice kick. However, they're just too costly.

Harker is awesome. He costs 55 points, for which you get Stealth (which costs 30 for the unit*), a mobile heavy bolter (a stationary one costs 10), and for the remaining 15 you get Move Through Cover and Infiltrate (i.e. outflank with a bunch of meltaguns and a demo charge).

*I'm sure someone will bring up snare grenades, but unless you're running some insane carapace/sentries/powerfist/straken/yarrick close combat monstrosity, they are at best worthless. Or more than likely, it will be counterproductive, as that close combat unit that was going to wipe out the squad will now have to finish you off during your assault phase, i.e. safe from shooting for a turn.

Overall, I've found his unit to be amazing. They show up in their chimera behind enemy lines on turn 2 or 3 (94% chance), on the side you want (89%), and proceed to wreck several turns of havoc. Even if their transport is popped immediately, which is uncommon, they are surprisingly resilient taking shelter in the wreckage/crater for a 3+ or even 2+ cover save (if incoming is available, they can achieve a 2+ from the flimsiest shrub of cover. Many a time have my opponents frustrated themselves trying to shoot the unit off an objective, finally whittling them down to just Harker, and watch him make every FNP save.

Better yet, unlike Bastonne, Harker doesn't even have to be alive for all the special rules to function, so if a lucky wound gets through, you didn't just waste a bunch of points.
