Interested in general thoughts about him, specifically what is the lowest point game you see him viable in and how would you run him? I'm trying to decide if he can fit in a 1500 point list. He seems to be one of the best SW heroes. If he launches an attack he could very well wipe out half of even strong melee squads himself (I6 hit MEQ on 3, wound on 2, PW, minimum of 6 attacks, up to 8...) never mind furious charge for the entire squad.
It is really tempting to put him in a Land raider obviously to try and ensure he launches the assault and survives to get into range, while screening it with some empty razorbacks and such. I just can't justify that many points in a single unit for 1500, or even 1850 really. One melta with some ordinance or something and it is a wrap. Also, no denying the squishy factor with T4 if he comes across a hidden powerfist, but invlun 4+ helps somewhat.
For 1500 trying to decide if he is worth it to run in a rhino with a typical grey hunter squad (total waste to take blood claws since their +1 launch assault becomes worthless when with him).

I think he is grand for a 1500 point game. I probably wouldn't bring any other HQ's maybe a rune priest at most.
He just tears stuff up.

If I understand correctly Blood claws can still get there +1 assalt, just ragnar doesn't get the bonus. I didn't read anything that says the squad he is with act diffrently. Am I wrong?

I used him at a 2,000 point GT. I ran him in an LRC, with 10 grey hunters, a pack leader, wolf priest and rune priest. I brought the death star because I was meta gaming for the 30 boy ork squad that would be holding an objective. I needed something that could run through any squad and wipe them in one round of combat.
It worked, obliterating anything it hit and that was the problem. It was too much. The squad was just over powered, wasted anything it touched and then got shot to hell after words.
I would sometimes send all the characters out on their own to engage multiple squads, which was less overkill.
Ragnar is awesome, but he is just so choppy and he gets insta killed quite easily.
I think Logan is just flat out better. Stick him in a squad and give them preferred enemy, Logan has eternal warrior and a fist or frost blade.
Ragnar is cool, but just a bit too much unless you face blob squad IG, Orks, Or horde Nids a lot.
Now, for a punch face squad that is much cheaper, I run a naked wolf priest with 15 blood claws with a fist in an LRC for an insane amount of preferred enemy attacks. That is a great squad that fills the same role for far less points.
So Ragnar, rocks, but honestly, he is a fun game only character IMO. He is just a little too much for serious tournament play.

Hmmm. Good call. I also have this squad in which you speak. I also like it because if the land raider gets blown up your still slugging accross the ground with a huge mob of dudes. I am very much a fan.

Yeah, I took the Bloodclaws to an RTT with a simple Wolf Priest just to see how they did, and they really surprised me. I was expecting crap and they really blew me away with their performance. 60 strength 4 attacks with re rolls to hit is no joke man, and on a fearless squad no less. They are a lawn mower at a reasonable price, and scoring to boot.

Reece, the only problem with that is that grey hunters are the same price and have ws4. The only thing the claws give you is a few extra bodies, but a unit of 10 grey hunters in said Land Raider with a wolf priest and maybe a wolf guard would be just as effective methinks.

Grey Hunter's banner giving Ragnars +d3 attacks a reroll on a 1 is ace too.
I run ragnar frequently, I use him for his furious charge bubble, at adepticon I brought 15 blood claws with a wolf priest in a LRC and ragnar with grey hunters in a redeemer, one game my opponent outmanuevered me and kept ragnar out of the fight, but he was within 12" of my bloodclaws on the turn they were to assault, so he gave them furious charge... 15 blood claws, 60 attacks, rerolling misses at S5 I5 can handidly wipe out Lysander, a terminator librarian, and 10 assault terminators.
Ragnar works best IMO as a force multiplier, furious charge is a Huge benefit to have. The fact that he can give it to nearby units is just badass.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.
