I'm new to Hordes and I'm looking for some advice on how best to get started with Legion. I already have the Legion starter box, a Raek, and Absylonia. I've only played one game so far but I need to get a few more mini's so I can start playing in the 25-35pt range.

I know I'd like to use Absylonia, a Raek, a Carnivean, and some Shredders.
The list I'm looking into at 35pts is;
Absylonia -5
- Carnivean 11
- Typhon 12
- Raek 4
- 3x Shredders 6
- Warmongers 5
- Forsaken 2

I'd like some feedback/tactics for this. If something doesn't quite fit let me know what should take its place.

Play and find out. That's the best way to see what works and what doesn't. I think that you'll find the the warmongers are just too slow to keep up with the rest of your army. That's what I've found with them.

I'm no expert on Legion, but it looks like you have too many beasts.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.

The Carnivean, Typhon and Reak are all brilliant with Absylonia, and a single Shredder or two for Tenacity would be pretty neat. I'm not a fan of the lesser warbeasts in particular, but a Raek with Forced Evolution and Tenacity is suddenly DEF 18, which is a real PITA for almost anyone to deal with.

The Warmongers are an interesting choice with Absylonia ... You'd probably want to cast Carnivore on them, so that they can actually hit anything, but Carnivore stops berserk, so while they can hit, they wouldn't be able to benefit from berserk.

I'd get something else other than the Warmongers. Otherwise I like the list

After looking at your list, i'd say you need a Shepherd.

They are awesome at running beast heavy lists.

I've picked up some Strider's and will be using them instead of the Warmongers. Typhon won't be getting added for a while but a Seraph looks to be very interesting.

Looking at this for 35pts instead;
Absylonia -5
-Carnivean 11
-Raek 4
-Seraph 8
-3x Shredders 6
Striders 6
-Strider UA 3
The Forsaken 2

Hm... Absylonia does not do much for the Seraph, but it's a pretty good beast on it's own, and will give you some ranged capability. I definitely liked Typhon better in your list than the Seraph though, but if you want to play that list, it will probably work out fine

I love the Striders, and take them in a ton of my lists, almost regardless of the warlock. They're good against infantry, and for flanking the enemy and threatening their support. Absylonia does not do much for them either, but they're pretty much self-sufficient.

Have you thought of how you're going to use the models? What's the plan?
Absylonia can upkeep her spells on her battlegroup for free, so you'd probably want to cast every single one in turn one, and then just go nuts with her. Which models get which upkeeps, and where do you intend for everything to go?
I'm well aware that no battle plan survives contact with the enemy, but it's always a good idea to have some preliminary plan as to how you build your list

EDIT: I take it that you're going to run it like you wrote in your other thread about Absylonia (this one)?

The Shredders will protect Abby and go rabid on anything that gets too close. The Raek will be move up and go after light jacks/beasts and infantry. The Seraph and the Forsaken will push forward using Strafe to deal damage and Slipstream to keep them near each other. The Carnivean will move up and take on jacks/beasts that the Striders have, hopefully, softened up.

If so, then I'd go for Playing God on the Carnivean, Forced Evolution on the Raek and Carnivore on Absylonia herself. The Carnivean benefits hugely from Reach, and the Raek can actually assassinate pretty handily with POW 14 and Leap, if you get the opportunity. The Seraph and Forsaken go well together, but the Forsaken can "suck" fury from 8" away, so keep it hidden and keep it safe by using that range to the fullest.
Blight Field can really put a massive crimp on your opponent's day, so be ready to use that to keep the Carnivean safe when it's about to get pummeled by the opposing heavies.
Absylonia herself can also be a pretty good assassin, and if you get the opportunity to finish off an enemy beast without putting yourself "out there", take it. Eat your opponents fury, and watch him squirm

Don't expect the Striders to soften up anything heavy; they have POW 10, which will barely scratch any 'jack or beast. You'll want to have them flanking your opponent, going after infantry and back-field support, or even your opponents own flankers.

I hope that helps somewhat. Please don't hesitate to ask again

The Forsaken can help with the Fury management.

Yep, and Absylonia can easily run those beasts as well. The Carnivean won't be using a lot of fury until you commit it, and the Seraph can be managed by the Forsaken. Shredders will not do a lot, until something tasty gets close, and when they've been committed you can write them off completely, since they'll die to a slight breeze or a harsh word.
The Raek is not very fury heavy either, so I don't think the list will end up in a bad place, even when running hot. I usually bring 1½ - 2 times the fury that my warlock needs, because Legion is not an army that you'll want running on empty. Trolls can run with a single light beast and not be in any trouble, but that is not the case for Legion, IMO.

Carnivean gets Playing God. Raek gets either Forced Evolution or Carnivore depending on the situation. The Shredders will spam Tenacity on the Carnivean and act as extra wounds for Absylonia.

Tenacity can't really be "spammed" on one target, since it won't stack. You'll naturally want Tenacity on the Raek and Absylonia as well. Using the Shredders as transfer batteries is a time-honoured tradition in Legion (albeit a little lessened by the new transfer rules), so they should work out fine for you
