I've been seeing lots of photos in the gallery and on other 40k sites and i was wondering where do you get the (what look to be) riot shields for the guard. Are they custom made or an original warhammer conversion

Those are necromunda but you can find easy to use riot shields at www.theassaultgroup.com.

Just look under weapons and go to usa modern. Pretty much anything in that line will work with guardsman.

Yep, the shields in the DT5 post are arbites riot shields (GW direct only, and you can't just get the bits).
Alternates are the 'TAG' ones or even the old iCore VOID Junker plastics - now available through Scotia Grendel (which work out at 5 quid for 10 models).

Void also had tons of riot shields.

At other times, I have had one of several cursive fonts as the default. It's like the demons inside the box writing me little notes.

@kk: Yep, those are the ones I meant. You get 5 sprues for the 5 pounds (and 10 bases), each does 2 models.
