A friend has been urging me to make this blog, so here I am.

Well, I have been... lurking here for a while, quite envious of the skill of some of the people I have seen on here and it has given me a bit of a push to get some of my space marines finished, I used to play back when Armageddon was the codex to have and so the Salamanders always stuck out to me, I began my army back then, but a long break means I have alot of half painted models and quite frankly, some of them are shockingly bad.

After some searching about, I decided that my modelling skills aren't really good enough to do custom bases for my models, so I hunted about and bought a pack of 26 resin lava bases from DarkArts Miniatures, they are pretty decent quality with only a few minor air bubbles, all of which can be quite easilly repaired.

I'm sorry about the quality of the pictures, I had to snap them with my phone camera, I will try and get some better pictures when my digital camera is working again.

I picked out two of the midsized bases, ideal for the Terminator's I have been working on for the past month or two heh, I cleaned them up, washed them and then basecoated them with Chaos Black, (no WiP shots of this point sadly.) after the basecoat had dried, I gave them about 5 coats of Skull White to the lava parts of the base as well as the cracks in the cooled lava rocks, once I was satisfied with that coverage, I then gave them 3 coats of Sunburst Yellow, the result is seen below.

Now, the next few steps I kind of winged things as the only orange colour I had, had dried up, so I began mixing Sunburst Yellow with Blood Red until I got an orange I was happy with, this was then watered down slightly and layered onto the yellow parts of the base, gradually adding slightly more Blood Red until it reached the rocks, to tie everything together, I then gave the bases a wash with watered down Sunburst Yellow. The rocks were tidied up using Chaos Black and then drybrushed lightly with skull white and when I say lightly, I mean lightly, when everything was dried, I picked out the bubbles in the lava with Skull White.

Overall, this is my first attempt at painting lava and I think it has gone reasonably well, as soon as I can get better pictures I will, I'll also get pictures of the Dread and Terminators I have been working on.

Any comments or advice is most welcome.

Well, no pictures this time, but I do have a small update, work has begun on two more terminator bases and I have ordered some bits from Chapterhouse Studios, hopefully when they arrive I can get them painted up quickly, still waiting on a few sets of arms, so some of my space marines are a bit useless at the moment.

Anyway, Pictures to follow soon I hope.

I wish I had read this last night I was trying to do lava the other night through some trial and error and I really like the way this turned out.

I ended up using Blazing Orange, Blood Red and Sunburst Yellow and then lightly drybrushed the rocks with Codex Grey and Fortress Grey to bring them out a little.

I think it might look good to do the same with yours and highlight with a bit of gray on the rocks, was looking at a lava flow picture online and it seemed to have a bit in it

Aye, there is some grey/white on the rocks, but sadly my phone isn't the best thing for taking pictures, so it just comes out looking completely black heh.

Ty for the comments guys.

Gotcha, you mentioned you used some skull white but I was unsure if that was only to highlight the lava or the rocks as well.

I look forward to seeing some minis on those bases, I have 10 scouts and a Vulkan I painted up to go with my SoB army cheese

Hopefully that pic is a little clearer, I think I need to learn how to take better pictures heh, sorry for the lack of updates guys, RL has hit me hard in the face, so all projects have been slowed down slightly, although, I should be starting work on a four new troopers soon.

Enjoy.

Man, I really need to get around to updating this blog more, Pictures will come as soon as I can find a camera that can take decent pictures of minis.

Progress since the last update includes finalising construction on a Sternguard Squad, nothing elaborate conversion wise, all done with craft knife, glue and bitz

Current count stands at.

1x Sergeant with PW & Combi Melta
2x Meltagunners
2x Bolter Marines
1x Plasmagunner

I also have two of the old Assault Weapon marine bodies and just happen to have some spare arms, shoulder pads and assault weapons, so they should be added onto the pile too, will be a bit more of a pain to pin to the new resin bases, but it should be worth it.

Again, Sorry for the lack of updates.

So, I got myself a job, which has pretty much put all hobby activity onto the back burner until my days off, but even then it's rare I actually get time to do anything >.<

However, I am selling some of my unwanted stuff in the swapshop and hopefully will be working on either IoB High Elves or more Salamanders over the next couple of days.

The Sternguard are looking pretty good and I have just bought myself some Army Painter Greenskin Colour Primer, so painting the Salamanders should be a little quicker now that I can undercoat them green.

Pics will accompany my next update when I actually paint something...

:O an update! of sorts....

Well, as I suspected, real life has kicked me hard in the crotch heh.

Anything hobby related has been put on the backburner as I struggle to find time to continue various other projects, hopefully some of which will be coming to a close soon.

As promised, pics of what I have been working on recently are attached

Well, the last few weeks have been different to say the least, work has restructured again, including a change to my contract of employment and my working hours, which are now 12 hours a night, but only 4 nights a week, so I should have a little more free time to put towards wargaming.

With that in mind, at the end of April I ordered myself a full 1500 point Catachan army, you may ask why? Well, it was because I was feeling nostalgic, the Catachans were the first models I owned and I always regretted not putting a full army together when the old Codex was still in use, so I headed over to Wayland Games and ordered two batallions, two boxes of Jungle Fighters, two Chimeras and a Valk.

I know that tanks aren't strictly fluffy for Catachans, but I think that they would have one or two stashed away for when the jungles get a little thinner, the Valk... well, who doesn't like the idea of Catachan Vets dropping out of the back and into the battle?

So I set about construction, as it stands I have three of the heavy weapons teams built (Autocannons) One scout sentinel with a missile launcher and a HK launcher, a conversion for a Vendetta (using leftover lascannons from the HW teams and Sentinel kit) the Company Command Squad, a six man special weapon sniper squad and a stand-in for GSgt Harker.

Pictures attached soon
