So I play Eldar in a very heavy SM enviroment. Out of 20 or so regulars, 1 other guy plays Eldar, 1 guy plays Tau, 1 guy plays Chaos, 2 guys play Orks, and 1 guy called Necron Mike keeps showing up, but I have no idea what he plays. ; )

Everyone else is either BA's, DA's, SW's, or Vanilla Marines.

That said, I get tired of my Eldar being drawing at best, losing at worst. There's just soo many tanks around I cant keep up with my skimmers. A 200 point tank seems bad when a bunch of Razorbacks can TL a Str 9 gun and wipe them out even if reduced to Str 8 by my energy field.

I probably just suck, hehe.

Anyways, I've been looking to build a 2nd army. I've narrowed down to the races below. I'm also listing why I narrowed it down, and what my biggest hold ups are.

If I'm wrong on my preconception, please educate me.

Chaos Demons: They seem fun, but I worry about the offchance of playing someone with Witch Hunters. My biggest fear is that I'll build and paint this gloriously evil army and someone will be like, "Oh look. A demon. How cute. I have this 1 guy with 1 10 point ability that will simply defeat your whole army. Lata sucka.

Are Chaos Demons even viable in 5th? I dont see many lists or players talking about them. I assume they're about as good a counter to all the razorback/rhino/LR spam as I'm going to find, due to their high strength scores and ability to crush a vehicle. I hear bad things about the warp in rules, the stability issues, the bad invul saves, how slow their calvary is.. and that they are weak to psykers like SW. Although everything is weak to GW it seems.

Chaos Space Marines: Space Marines but different? I dunno. They seem fun and people who play them seem to like them. I'm afraid they're stuck in the same role of vehicle spam that SM are.

Necron: No one plays them and I assume they are due for an upgrade eventually, like my Eldar should be. (Though DE need it worse.) Phase Out sucks and their units are too expensive in points and cash.

Tau: If I had thought about it, I likely would have started with Tau instead of Eldar. I like their shooty and tanks, but I am hesitant here because I am afraid they're going to play very much the same as my Eldar.

Daemonhunters: I think Grey Knights are cool looking and I like their fluff, but I can't get past the repeated threads talking about how horrible they are unless you drop a list of 5 landraiders and a few termies. And again. All metal. All mega points. I think if I really was insistent on using grey knights, they're better as an allied unit. Too bad I desire to play neither space marines or IG.

I'm mostly trying to figure out a way to counter my current Meta, which is 80% SM.

Hell, if there's a good way to do that with Eldar, I'm all ears as well.

Thanks much.

Ken

Hmm, I've been playing Tau for a while and I wanted to start a second army to complement them (something less shooty and more assaulty). So I chose Blood Angels cause they are fun close combat focused army.

Maybe choose something not similar to Eldar? Something less shooty?

Of your list I would probably suggest Chaos Space Marines or Chaos Demons? Seems like nobody is playing them in your group of players....

Not a very good variety of choices there, if you'd like to win anyway. Chaos Marines are very, very similar to codex Marines right now. You can do plenty of different stuff, but they are at their core Marines with a new coat of paint. Necrons are like Marines but boring, Tau look nice but are overcosted and understrength, and Daemonhunters have some cool stuff going on. They're an old codex so you'd probably be outclassed by more modern ones, but they have a good deal of tricks up their power armored sleeves.

I only assume you're looking to win a bit more since you expressed frustration at only getting ties and defeats. What kind of stuff do you have in your Eldar army? Sometimes the best thing to do is expand your first army before buying a second one.

Well, it's less about losing and more with losing with a new army at least.

I've got everything the Eldar put out except for Prism Cannons, Warp Spiders, and all of the Phoenix Lords because well, they're fairly bad.

ive never used prisms but honestly i love the warp spiders. 1 squad of warp spiders can usualy take a chunk out of an exposed squad then hop away. they are espicaly useful when fighting T3 models, sadly you dont face alot of that.
you could see what the other eldar player is using and watch his taticts to see what you could do to improve.
