Is anyone else bothered by the fact that the Death Company are "sent to their death" but at the same time their armor is a forever old precious artifact? Or do space marines really have that high of an armor recovery rate?

I mean it makes little sense in general, even more so with death company. You would think with the type of fighting they do a lot more armor would be lost. Maybe I am wrong.

Armor when ever possable is recovered.

unles they are in severe danger of completely being wiped out they will recover the armor, and failing that they will recover the geneseed.

It does sound rediculous for these things to be so valuable one second and then get thrown into lopsided odds the next. The way i think it works is they are accustomed to winning or at the very least having time to fall back such that they can drag their dead with them so they don't worry about it until they have to. Plus the stuff thats worth recovering is gonna be hella durable so I suppose recovering something doesn't have to be right away; they could keep a note of where it is and then return with enough force to get it back.

My 2 cents

Expensive, yes. But to deny a Brother the chance to die in combat, and to leave him to the black rage, or to simply let him charge his enemies and die a useless death, that would be far worse.

Without the armour, they are strong, yes. But to fight the enemies of man and leave a lasting dent, the armour is needed. To send Death Company without armour is to kill a few heretics, and a good marine. Oftentimes, the Death Company pushes the enemy back, sometimes it doesn't work. But it serves a far greater purpose when put on the front line, instead of being stripped.

It allows the Blessing of the Primarch to shine greatest. Expensive, yes. But more costly to morale and honour not to do so. (Succumb to the Black Rage, and we'll strip you down, give you a chainsword, and let you charge the enemy, naked.) Besides, the Techmarines can always use a challenge to keep them from tinkering with everything else from boredom.

well, i don't know.

a 7ft naked man charging me, yelling "DIE TRAITOROUS SCUM" at the top of his lungs, slavering at the mouth, and waving a chainsaw at me would make me want to be anywhere but there.

That gives me a braveheart image. LOL. Running downhill at them with a clamore sized combat blade.

At least they don't give them las-guns and a flak jacket. That would just be insulting.

(Why does spellcheck keep yelling at me for That'd? I always thought it was an acceptable contraction.)
