My army is coming together finally but I have seen other DA armies have highlights on their armor that looks really nice. How would I go about doing this? I have only heard of highlighting but never could figure out what the process is.

I suppose the easiest way to start would be a step by step guide aimed at beginners from GW.

Highlighting, as well as shading, is the process of simulating how light falls on objects and exaggerated so that at the miniature scale the figure looks both realistic (to an extent) and a representation of something much larger such as a real marine.

In very simple terms it means that things facing up will be brighter and things facing down will be darker.

where am I? *looks around* Well i'm...errr...I...I...don't know!

My own way of doing DA highlights is as such:

Undercoat: Black spray
Basecoat: DA green
Highlight: Snot Green
THEN give the armour Thraka Green and Badab Black washes till it looks right and then touch up any slight mistakes made.
hope this helps and I'll try to put up some examples later

The only limitation I have is the paints. I have to drive some distance to get the paint so when I need alot of things like paint, models, or other stuff I will make a run. I will try the snot green idea. and on the washes you use both thraka green and badab black or could you use just one?

A cave, deep in the Misty Mountains

I use a two stage highlight scheme.

Basecoat of DA green

Inital highlight of Snot Green. I do a bit of blending here when I can, especially on rounded surfaces such as shoulderpads.

Tip highlight of Goblin green. This brings out the sharper edges of the model

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

It really depends what you want the DA to be. If you want a sinister and dark army that is properly in keeping with the Da's fluff then use at least one Badab Black wash, if you want them lighter then Thraka Green would be fine on its own, just depends how you want to go really.

I know what you mean...1/2 hour car/bus journey into town for me :( sucks, right??

anyways, good luck, I'll try to add pics by tonight.
