well, ive got a load of trollbloods built up... but still not one game of hordes in.

i do play warmachine once a week, so i understand the core of the rules...

the question stems from a nearby store having lots of skorn at %50 off... might get around %60 off if i buy enough. and i am sure there is enough to make an entire army.

1 starter box
2 gladiators
2 cannoneer
2 rhinodons
3 boxes of arcuarii
3 boxes of catrati
1 box swordsmen
1 box immortals
1 box of ventors
3 boxes of the cav models

and loads of blisters of extra troops
pain givers and beast handlers
catapults
ect ect ect.

its just that from what i have seen online skorne are not that competitive. and while i do like the looks of them, i really dont want to get steamrolled all the time.

they also have some circle, and some legion.... but not nearly enough to make half an army.

Well, from what I see around there, Mk. II Skorne IS quite a competitive army with a lot of good options. Did you check PP Skorne forum?
I'd seriously consider playing that faction myself if I weren't repulsed by their fluff (and the look of some of their models).

never read much into the fluff for warmachine / hordes.

as far as i know khador = soviet, menoth = crusaders, cryx = bad guys, cygnar = something along the lines of america or europe.

trollbloods = barroom brawlers, circle = druish, skorne = persians that are into S&M, legion = bad guys

No, the tricksy Cryx are the good guys, they only want hugs.

As from what I recall and skimming through the Mk 2 rules set.

Skorne are a combat army that has a delicate balance between offensive strength and their dying infantry that lacks any inherent speed or terrain ignoring stuff. They have to use fury or purchase unit/solos to get around that issue.

As for synergies, they are quite strong, but costly, as those synergies generally span 3-4 units, leaving little room for misc. stuff.

IMO, there are few units that can operate independantly, for better or for worse.

As for competitive, if you focus your list on the movement buffs and maximizing your deaths turned into strength, you should be good, it's just prob. harder to judge when you need to commit as you do get stronger as more stuff dies, but you need to have stuff to do that damage.

Good Luck.

Priviteer press forum and Battle College are great resources, if you like pod casts there is Iron Agenda and Fury and Focus.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

humm things get better as stuff dies, and they are very slow... so they play a lot like menoth then?

I have a skorne hordes army and really like the figures. They are bad guys certainly. The comment about getting better as stuff dies is not true generally, but has specific applications - certain casters and units/solo's. Generally a strategy can be built around this, but it is something to do at list creation.

Mostly I like their desert themed beasts, though the ninja figures (bloodrunners) are very pretty.

Your list is missing Molik Karn of what you can get, which is as close to an auto as Skorne has after the final cards came out.

FWIW, I was listening to GutsNGears and Doug Seacat from PP said that Skorne will be the first Hordes forces book released after Primal MKII.

Yes the order of the forces books was decided by last years campaign and the order is skorne, trolls, circle, legion and minions.

well, i broke down and picked up a small force of circle he had... seeing some of the models in the stores display case is what got me to jump.

picked up

1 stonecleaver
1 stormwrath

they were the only 2 locks he had... i like me the looks of kaya and the moonhunter though

for warbeasts i got

1 warpwolf
2 argus
1 world watcher

only had 1 solo... so i picked it up as well.

tharn ravanger whitemane

as for units....

1 full unit of reavers
1 full unit of tharn ravangers
1 unit box of druids of Orboros
1 unit box of tharn wold riders

then 1 blister of wolves of orboros, and 1 blister of tharn bloodtracker... i know i cant use them yet, but figured why not?

and because i spend so much at his store, i was able to talk him down a bit from his 50% off.... i got all that stuff for %60 off retail

o, also picked up alexia ciannor unit box, enough resin to take me up to the full 20 (should i ever get that lucky) and 2 more thrall warriors.... with the other odds and ends it would have been like 550 or something, i walked out paying around 230 still a big dent in the wallet. but thats why ive been pulling some overtime

My next buy for my circle stuff is some Wolves of Orboros and maybe some individual blisters of Tharn Ravagers (I can't afford to buy 4 at once, I'll just get one a month or so)

The Wold-shrimp are pretty decent as a shooting option.

Can anybody else remind me what they are actually called?

Those are solid, least when I have faced them.
