Subject: Deploying quickly?

I am playing in my first ever tourny this summer. I play an ork army (115 boys). My question is, How do I deploy and move such a large force quickly in order to keep up a decent pace for a 2 hour time limit. My goal here is to keep the game enjoyable for my opponent and myselfand try to find a true victor rather than having to stop after the second round because of time. . I know it gets hard to play when the other guy has to take 30 min to deploy and a 30 min movement phase.

One bright day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other.
A deaf police man heard the noise
And came to arrest the two dead boys
Don't believe this story's true?
Ask the blind man he saw it too.

u could have your squads on movement trays and simply slide them off and onto the board or if the board is flat enough, just use the movement tray.

Deployment trays a la LoTR Ring War.
Make a few cardboard or plasticard trays (you´ll find examples around dakka) with round inserts to but your boyz in and for the deployment phase you just put down the tray rather than deal with each model.

don't measure for each and every model... just move the front guys up 6", and everyone else up in formation behind them. Know what your doing before you deploy, and know where each squad needs to run so you don't waste time thinking about movement. You can move 115 fairly quickly if you know what your doing.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Gale Force 9 makes a snazzy little template with all of the usual distances measured out for you (link: http://www.gf9.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=235&language=en) Makes measuring your movement and coherency a little bit faster and easier which adds up when you need to move a ton of models. If you don't want to shell out the cash for one, it'd be easy to copy the design onto cardboard and cut it out, yourself. Just make sure your opponent doesn't mind you using it (if they're leery, let them measure it - can't imagine too many people having a problem with it). Won't make a world of difference, but every little bit helps.

Well, measure the distance for one of the models closest to the enemy (gradient).
Then place the other models without measurement so that the mob keeps up the same pattern.

Get one of the GF9 templates with a 2" coherency edge and a 6" movement edge, they're invaluable.
Do not just lump guys up into a pile. And try to make sure no individual model moves more than 6". You can do this with the little template thingy very easily.
Use different coloured mobs too. Make them stand out easily and obviously from each other, it will save you a ton of time trying to figure out if this boy goes with squad A or squad B.
Practice. Play casual games at tournament speed, get your hands and mind working at the pace you'll need to get the games in.

I just ordered this from thewarstore.com (these guys rock excellent service) I have been playing at tournament speed for the last couple of months and we have only gotten as far as round 3.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Have read and reread and will print out and carry with me throughout the tournament.
My goal for this tournament is to have fun and and keep my games enjoyable for my opponent as well.

I play tyranids with lots of termagants and hormagants.
I Love, LOVE, LOVE my TAC template from GF9! Such a time saver. Also comes in handy for those very close charge declarations. Now, if the blue plastic thingy doesn't touch both bases there's no doubt of the charge range.

Another time saver, though it requires opponent permission, is to ask them if they mind if you roll "run" or "fleet" moves before moving units. Be very careful with this, as you may end up sacrificing shooting you find later you actually wanted to do - but if you're CERTAIN a unit will be running, ask for opponent's permission to roll it early.
eg:
Roll difficult terrain for a mob of orks, you roll a 2 and a 5. Then you roll a d6 for running and get a 4. Just move the squad 9" and be done with it.
Again, you need your opponent's consent, and agreement that using this technique doesn't forfeit the rest of your movement phase.

It's a great way to speed it up, rather than move 115 models twice T1-2.

I don't like doing that, because knowing how far you'll be able to run during the movement phase is an advantage, and even if an opponent agrees at the time, if you win the game, they might get bitter about it.
Better to just work on the speed that you can do things than change the game, in my opinion.

That would work except I am running Ghazkull and if I run before I declare his Whaaag! I loose my automatic 6 inch run. I can't declare his Whaaag! until my shooting phase.
