Subject: New vanilla SM player. Needing help creating a couple VERY shooty lists. 1000 and 1500 pts

Hey all, first ill post what i have at my disposal and then give you an idea of what i'd like my play style to be. Hopefully with some help we can make a fun casual mech marine list.
Here is what i have to use so far:
Chapter Master
Librarian
10 termies with PF/SB
40 SM's 5 have HB, 2 LC, 2 PC, 1 MM, 4 ML
1 rhino
1 razorback
1 whirlwind
1 vindicator
1 landraider 2x TLLC, TLHB
1 veteran assault squad w/ JP's
1 Drop Pod
4 Dreadnoughts 1 with LC/ML, 1 with AC/SB, 2 with MM/SM
I'm willing to mod any of my models to fit a list, and i have about $200 to add to it. I love sitting back and dishing out pain from afar, so i need ideas for a list that as long ranged based as possible with maybe some up close termie support. Definitely want to add a Master of the forge with conversion beamer. Basically super ranged marines with CC support. Only been playing for about 2 months now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

ok... a shooty list with your models :
1500 pts
HQ: terminator Librarian w/ stormshield (vortex of doom + null zone) - 140 pts
Elite: 5 terminators (cyclone launcher, chainfist) - 235 pts
Elite: Dreadnought (2x twin linked autocannons) - 125 pts
Elite: Dreadnought (2x twin linked autocannons) - 125 pts
Troops: 10 man tac squad (melta, missile launcher, power fist sarge) in rhino - 235 pts
Troops: 10 man tac squad (melta, multimelta, fist, power fist sarge) in drop pod - 235 pts
Troops: 5 man tac squad (melta bombs on sarge) in razorback (Twin linked heavy bolter, hunter killer missile) - 140 pts
Heavy: Land Raider w/ multimelta - 260 pts
Mostly a sit back and shoot army... your dreads are great for popping enemy transports so they can't get closer to you, while the land raider + terminators take out the enemy tanks, with their str 8 and str 9 weapons. The drop pod tac squad drops in to an advance position... not close enough to rapid fire turn 1, but close enough that if they want to move heavy armor like a land raider closer to you, they need to pass within 12" so you can get a multimelta shot off. If the enemy is shooty (he will be able to outshoot you.. like guard or tau) the plan is to drop the pod empty first turn. you don't want to give them your army piecemeal. Try to block line of sight for their units with it. Put the 10 man tac squad from the pod in the land raider, and deep strike the terminators. Then you can roll your entire army towards his line, and try to engage in hand to hand.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

Best way would be to go the Space Wolves route.
5 Man squads in Razorbacks
A couple Rune Priests
Landspeeders Typhoons
Long Fangs with Missile Launchers (4-5 per squad)

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Looks very solid, excellent advice! Thanks a ton, also i don't want my current list to be any sort of a restriction. Anything else you would suggest keeping in mind i have about $200 to put towards it? Also i cant help but want to use alot of heavy support, I love my whirlwind and vindicator, maybe they would be better suited in a 2k point list?

Predators are a great buy. The AC+2xHB predator, for only 85 points, is a great add to any force. Land Speeder Typhoons as well, are amazing. If you want a shooty marine list that you can make with $200 + your models, here's a 1500 pt list:
HQ: Librarian w/ null zone + avenger - 100 pts
Elite: Dreadnought w/ 2x TLAC - 125 pts
Elite: Dreadnought w/ 2x TLAC - 125 pts
Troops- 10 man tac squad (melta, missile launcher, combi-melta) - in rhino (HK missile) - 230 pts
Troops- 10 man tac squad (melta, missile launcher, combi-melta) - in rhino (HK missile) - 230 pts ($30 rhino)
Troops- 5 man tac squad in razorback (Lascannon + TL plasma) - 165 pts
Fast: Land Speeder Typhoon - 90 pts ($30)
Fast: Land Speeder Typhoon - 90 pts ($30)
Fast: Land Speeder Typhoon - 90 pts ($30)
Heavy: Predator (2x HB+AC) - 85 pts ($40)
Heavy: Predator (2x HB+AC) - 85 pts ($40)
Heavy: Predator (2x HB+AC) - 85 pts ($40)
there's no close combat support in this list... but with the firepower your putting out...you probably don't need much anyway. The rhino squads go after the heavy enemy armor, the speeders take out light tanks, and the dreads gun down transports. your predators kill infantry, and enemy light transports / speeders. Alot of heavy weapons fire from this list per turn. list price is $240 for the suggested units.. you can easily get it for under $200 if you use ebay. Make sure you only buy new on sprue items, unless you feel like gambling on the quality of assembled or painted items.
edit - whirlwinds are not really that good... for the same cost you get a predator, and i'll take the predator any day because of its ability to down light vehicles as well as masses of infantry. Vindicators work best in an assault oriented army, because they are such short range, they really shine when supporting other close ranged troops.

If you have some spare marines with heavy weapons, you could make a devastator squad or two to stay in cover and put out even more fire, perhaps instead of a predator.

Looks like im in luck, i found this badass website with very cheap models and free shipping on orders over $125. I can buy 3 preds and 3 Land Speeders for only $163! ill just put a rhino top on my whirlwind so no need to buy another. Heres their site-> www.superherogameland.com Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I noticed that the dreadnoughts are equipped with dual auto cannons... how the hell should i make those lol. Is there a practical way besides paying a ton for custom bits on forgeworld?

This is, for all intensive purposes, what I am moving my shooty marines to. My long fangs will never miss being devs. My marines will finally be able to put up a fight in CC with counter-charge.

A lot of people use the gun from the Aegis Defense Line kit. It comes in two sides already and requires very little work to make a totally badass model. Of course... you are looking at some cost (I think it comes to less than the FW upgrades), but you at least get some terrain you could use.
Here's a link to see how it looks (google search result): http://www.40korigins.com/40KOrigins/post/2009/08/23/Rifleman-Dreadnought.aspx

Second although maybe a unit of sternguard vets with their specail issue ammo they can shoot 30" with a st4 ap4 shot then if anything somehow gets into rapid fire range go with hellfirerounds to ensure a high no of wounds.

Great tip with the Aegis Defense Line kit, i just ordered 2 for $34 and the extra scenery will be sweet. I'm thinking about making the dreadnought have 4 legs or 2 legs with stabilizers to support such massive fire capacity.

like a starcraft II immortal? f'in hardcore.
as for how to modify dreadnoughts... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330428292407&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=%3F*F%3F&GUID=cb5fceb91230a03663149194ffefe219&itemid=330428292407&ff4=263602_263622
you'd need 8 of them... you can easily modify them to fit on the lascannon arm and a missile launcher arm.

A good thing you did. Those infantry AC's are really wimpy. Having used the defense line for my own rifle, I can assure you of it's
awesomosity
Honersstodnt's List is pretty pro, but I'd opt for MM in the tacs; They scare tanks far more than ML's do, and create a big FU zone the turn after you move up 12" and blow smoke. Heck, i don't even call them rhinos; they're MM Bunkers.

What are your thoughts on taking out a pred and librarian for a thunderfire cannon and master of the forge with conversion beamer? or simply just a thunderfire cannon.

Nope.
Welll...
I wouldn't. Pro/Con time:
Pred
AV13, mobile, Contributes to armor saturation.
Limited number of wounds/turn output, shorter range
TFC
utility (strong point here, imo. Put DT on bikers/jumpers and lol), High wound output. (i've seen 36 on 10 marines)
Static, vulnerable
Think of it as a jab vs a hook. Neither is a haymaker knock you out blow, but they do different things. Quick and defensive vs stronger but leaves you more open. After that first one lands though, they know to look for it.
