I need an opinnion on my take all comers Vanilla army, vich is maybe just slightly CC oriented:
1x Captain (w power sword)
2x Tac squad 10strong (1x plasma pistol, ML, and meltagun; 1x ML and flamer)
1x rhino
1x Term. squad 5strong
1x LR Crusader (w multimelta)
1x Assault sq. 10strong (w meltabombs, 2x plasma pistol, power sword)
1x Pred (autocannon + bolter sponsons)
1x whirlwind
1x ven. dred. (w AC + DCCW/HF)

The problem is that by taking 'one of each' you're helping your opponent.
You have one AV14, one AV13, one AV12 and two AV11 (front armour) which means he can tailor his attacks to each vehicle and doesn't waste any shots.
You have 2 squads in transports and 2 in the open, so his anti-infantry fire has targets from round one (if all four units were in transports you've just wasted his anti-infantry fire until your transports go.
You need to think about what your strategy is and what specifically each unit can do to help, also how do you protect your force by making some enemy units useless.

Tower of Power
|
Captain is better with a relic blade. A s6 power weapon is the win.
Are you combat squading your tacticals? I also found combi weapons on the sgts matching the special weap can be useful.
You need 2 rhinos; 1 per tact squad.
Assault terminators are better. Land raider is fine though.
You should take dual assault squads because one won't last long; so taking 2 gives you multiple threat more than anything.
Always take tanks in pairs for unit redundancy and multiple targets.
Venerable dreadnoughts are over costed and should be taken in pairs too.
Bit of a mash mash take everything list. Will be easy to target prioritise and take things apart.

Lose the whirlwind, add dakka pred = same points
make termys assault with th/ss
minus dread, and meltabombs for a whole 10 assault marine squad.
then thin out a couple special weps for a rhino for the second tac

Plasma pistol are totally overpriced for what they can do, which is usually kill the person firing it. Flamer are much better for Assault squads.
Another overpriced unit is the Venerable Dreadnought

In my exp. plasmas work miracles (especially cannons). You only have 1/6 or 16,6666...% chance to kill yourself. The other 5/6 or 83,33333...% you're deep fryin' the fools on the other side of the gun

Pay 5 points to fry mutliple fools at 36" with a blast template =
Pay 10 points to fry a fool at 24" or two fools 12" =
Pay 15 points to fry ONE fool at 12" = foolish
