Just started playing Warhammer and after some torturous indecision on what to play, I went with Space Wolves. Now I just need a little help tweaking my army list.

So far I have a 2k list in mind that looks like this:

HQ- Wolf Lord, Storm Shield, Saga of the Bear(eternal warrior), Power Weapon, Melta Bombs. -185 pts.

Elites- 2 Dreads with multi meltas, storm bolters, and CCW. 210 pts.
5 Wolf Guard Terminators with Storm Bolters, Power weapons, 1 heavy flamer. 170 pts.

Troops- 3- 5 man grey hunter squads with 1 melta each 240 pts.
1- 15 man blood claw squad w/ Melta gun and flamer. 225 pts.

Heavy Support- 5-long fangs with a squad leader all with missile launchers. 140 pts.
Predator with twin linked lascannon and lascannon sponsons. 165 pts.
land raider crusader with multi melta (blood claws and HQ in it) 260 pts.

Transports- 4 razorbacks with twin linked assault cannons (one for each grey hunter squad and one for the long fangs)300 pts.
3 drop pods(1 for each dred and 1 for wolf guard terminators. 105 pts.

Just looking for some feedback before I go ahead with this army as is. I have been playing with alot of proxy stuff and it seems to work so far, but definitely want to avoid too many expensive noob mistakes! Thanks ahead of time!

Welcome to Dakka/40k Aterdeus. All and all the list looks pretty well thought out, so awesome first attempt. Some things to consider would be:

1. Removing the melta bombs on the terminators (they have powerfists already)

2. Downgrade the LC turret on the predator to an Autocannon. Makes the predator much cheaper and the Autocannon has equal if not better chances at penetrating AV 11-12 then a LC (well before the TL).

3. Put meltaguns in the Grey Hunter squads and two flamers in the Blood Claw squad. I'm a fan of the double special weapon ability with the Grey Hunters when 10 strong, but Razorback spam has it's own benefits too. This makes the Grey Hunters your anti-tank and Blood Claws all the more killy.

4. Assault Cannons are awesome, but if you want to shave points to grab/upgrade another unit you may want to downgrade a couple to normal TL HBs. Or change some out for more ranged anti-tank to add to your Long Fangs and Predator.

Overall not bad like I said. Good Luck

If you have some points left over, consider throwing a LC or 2 into the long fangs. Gives them a better chance for penning the higher AV's.

I don't know much about the SW codex, but if you could make those termies TH/SS termies. They are tough to kill and destroy almost anything you throw them at.

My advice isn't for your list per se, I play IG.

If you make it so that 'Space Wolves' shows in the topic header, you'll tweak the interest of more SW commanders and get more replies...

Getting there Aterdeus. If you're able I'd suggest getting a couple powerfists into that terminator squad. I like that they have stormbolters/HF so they can add some fire the turn they drop, but the list is missing a heavy CC hitter. While your termies are in your opponents face, might as well have them hit your opponent with something str 8 . I like the idea of 2x LC and 2x ML on the Long Fangs, but if you're short on points going all out ML is the efficient choice.

Still think 4x TL AC (although must look uber awesome on the table) is a bit overkill. By reducing them you could easily get another squad of something.

Anyway, just my two cents. Good luck in your games and have fun!

I would recommend 2 Assault Cannon Razorbacks and 2 Lascannon/ Plasma Gun Razorbacks. The reason being with having those Las/Plas Razorbacks, you have an efficient way of dealing with Monstrous Creatures that have Feel No Pain, 2+ Armor Saves and can help buff your lack of Long Ranged anti tank.

With everything mounted up...I think your Dreads need more range or to be removed entirely to make room for faster units. I would go with Plasma Cannons and Heavy Flamers as the cannons are awesome against infantry hordes and light armor. Heavy Flamer is self explanatory.

The Lascannon Predator I think can stay...maybe to shave some points and give some Power Fists to the army I would downgrade the twin linked lascannon to an Autocannon as you need some more Close Combat punch.

Otherwise, good start.

I like your list a lot. There's a few small things I would change, but for the most part I think you have a solid list.

There's just a few things that I would do differently, if it were me. On you Razorbacks, I wouldn't go Assault Cannons all the way around. I love Assault Cannons too, but the standard 40 point Razorback with Twin Linked Heavy Bolters is only 1 fewer shot at 1 fewer strength. I'd take 2 of those, and 2 las/twin linked plasma guns for a little variety.

With the points that you saved from the Razorbacks, I would kit out your Grey Hunters a bit more. The Mark of the Wulfen and a Power Sword in each unit might make a lot of difference when they get into hth.

Also, I'd probably drop one of the dreadnoughts and either bring a unit of Wolf Scouts with Melta Bombs, or more Wolf Guard that you could attach to your Grey Hunter and Blood Claw packs.

As for the Predator, I'm actually a big fan of more Long Fangs for the points. The Predator Annihilator is 165 points and has 3 shots @ S9 with 1 of them twin linked where for 25 points less you can have 5 shots @ S8. For the points you saved on the Annihilator, you could take one of those Terminators and give him a Cyclone Missile launcher and throw him in the pack with your Long Fangs as well.

Good luck!

I'm a big fan of combi on the wolf guard just for the fact that you can drop them with a dreadnought if need be (say you are fighting an enemy that has a good deathstar armor say suck on some 5 melta shots first turn) You could free up points and get 3x wolf guard drops but you should do well with the 2x multi melta dreads to pop some serious armor first turn.

I'm always going to say more long fangs cause frankly they are just awesome.

A big idea is the ac/lc pred for most games /armies. If you find you need more anti armor keep lc/lc but if you find you are fine with that but need anti horde or what not switch up armaments.

I do feel for your first list with the wolves you are on the right track, just maybe a few minor tweaks with weapons and maybe squad sizes. I would say tactically is start off with the fangs in cover not in the transport so they are shooting first (in most cases some you might want to keep em covered in the vehicles) and just either gunline or advance shoot at everything.
