Hey guys, a friend of mine said that ICs can't join allied units. Is this true?

For example, my cannoness can't join an allied unit of PAGKs...

1) There is no restriction in the WH or DH codex
2) Ask your mate to show you this rule next time. If they cannot then dont beileve them.

Is this one of those grey areas where there are no real rules for the situation? You say 'why not?' (personally I agree). The permissive rules say nothing. If your opponent doesn't like it I don't think you can force him to let you by RAW.

The permissive rules let the IC join ANY UNIT that isnt a squadron, vehicle or always consists of one model

Are the PAGK "any unit" that isnt a unit that fitst he above?

Yes

then they can join. Easy. Done.

The rules do *not* enumerate every possible situation that can happen, it is up to you to determine the general rules and work out if they apply.

/agree with Nos, this is not a team game with an 'ally' it is a unit in your own army taking one of your own Force Org. slots. The Canoness can join, although she cannot use Faith while she is with the unit.

So you need to use some form of common sense, compromise and understanding? Sounds like frgsinwntr can't RAWforce his friend to accept this interpretation of the rules. Might even have to talk it out.

Would this be "allied" as in WH/DH joined to each other? Or allied as in a team game? In the first case all units are in the same army and the Inquisition codexes make no mention of ICs not being allowed to join squads. Join freely IMO. In the second case there's no rules in the rulebook for it - you'll have to agree on something with the others.

No, it is up to their friend to find a rule saying the IC cannot join.

Actually I was asking because we couldn't find a ruling either way, played it as if they can, but wanted to be 100% sure that was right

I'm with Spetuhlu - what scenario are we talking about here? If it's an allied team game using two different force org charts, then you won't find any guidance on it.

In my group, we treat these kinds of allies as completely independent armies that do not interact. But your group may want to do it differently.

The example given, which I guess is close to the original, was allied WH and DH, who are the *same army* and therefore not a team game.

If it is a team game you are already out of the basic rules for 40k and having to make things up as you go along, so you may as well decide what you want to do in this instance.
