Plaguebearer with a Flu

After a bit of posting around people liked the concept sketch of the pin-headed barbarian I drew and I have christianed him Thugore, so I sculpted him out today. The roughing in is pretty much finished so I am gonna get to work on smoothing it out tonight ready for detailing and texturing tomorrow. Heres the roughed in bust....
More pics soon. If enough people are interested I might send this off to Grey Matter Figures to be cast and make it available to purchase.

Thanks mate.
Here's the next WIP shots, still lots to do, adjust face proportions sort out the eyes (I ordered some steel ball bearings so no more sculpting eyes necessary woo-hoo), ears, details and some texturing. I couldn't stop myself doing a bit of texturing a little prematurely though and I think I managed to achieve a good result with the skin, a simple 6 stage process which looks fairly realistic. When all this is done and baked I intend to remove it from the base and create a smaller base to extend the bust to the top of the chest, then the cloak and bone necklace will be added and the bust completed and sent off for casting.

Okay time for an update on this fellow. Oh, hang on, skip the update its finished!!!! Preview photos below, I'll take proper ones when i have the resin and its a nice bright day.
So anyway, I hope you like it. I decided to add an elephant man type cancerous skin texture on him add some additional deformity.
GOOD NEWS!!
I am officially releasing this guy myself under the banner of "DFB Studio", this will be my first piece so its pretty exciting. This will be availble from my website but I haven't had much time to make the website look pretty, luckily Freewebs does allow a shop which is where i will be selling it from. I will be trying to arrange for someone to stock this in the USA as well to get the cost down on postage for everyone on that side of the pond. The bust has just gone off to Grey Matter for casting today so it should be available soon. I will be looking be a talented painter to do a studio paintjob, i have someone who might possibly be free to do it and if not i will be looking for one on here. It is cool, I personally can't paint them but commenting is a much better way to bump. Any idea on what the cost will be around?

I am still awaiting a cost from the casters but I really want to bring this in at around £25. It's alot of resin, certainly larger than most busts out there so we will see. It will certainly be cheaper than Forgeworld busts were anyway (they charged £35 for less than half the size of this guy!), "cheaper than Forgeworld!" - that will be my mantra! The other thing i am trying to do is get this supplied by someone in the US/Canada, I am going to see if i Cool MIni Or Not might stock it first - to alleviate the burden of shipping costs for you guys over the water. I send out everything signed for or tracked which adds about £3.50 to the shipping overseas. This is okay for something like the bust, but if i were to venture into miniatures and somebody just wanted to order one it becomes expensive. I will do my best to make it available and affordable as I can, but I am really not sure of demand and interest so it is guesswork at the moment.
As to you not being able to paint them, I would say don't dismiss the idea so easily. I am thinking of the painters as much as I can when i do any sculpt. There is enough size here to allow you to get some brushwork going on without needing an incredible eye to see it and steady hand to make it neat, the surface are of the skin should be easier than 30mm miniatures and the fur cloak is perfect for drybushing. There is plenty of details without it being overly complicated and fiddly. I would rate this as something anyone could paint. Believe me, its the first thing i do when i get a mini is look it over and moan and groan about having to paint all the complex stuff that made me buy it in the first placeI!! have just purchased a couple of busts myself from the tales of war pirate range, very small - 50mm head to waist, looking forward to doing them, but they will still test my skills a bit due to the size.

Hey Ghosty, I did some more research on freaks of nature and sideshow people etc and decided that some tumours would look cool, make him even more of an outcast character and add some interesting facial texture to paint. I like it personally, ideally though I should have kept the normal face and made this as an optional seperate piece. Thats what happens working on the fly and changing stuff as you go though I guess!!!

Here is my product flyer for Thuggorre with the final paintjob photos, enjoy - he did a great job on them. I will post full size photos on my blog at some stage tonight or tomorrow. Would like some feedback on the graphic design work on this thing as well if you like. I love his paintjob on my bust, just wondering if this stuff is all laid out sensibly and showing off his work well? I did used to like doing all this stuff back in school (before computers were part of the equation that was, errr, ahem...) we had rub down "letraset", cut bits out, glue them down, photocopy etc. Very basic messing about really.

Thanks wickedcarrot. The painter has uploaded it to his coolminiotnot gallery now, if you throw him some votes, I am sure he would appreciate it!!!

Check out his other models, he is a really talented guy (thats why I chose him!!!) some nice other stuff in there, from a variety of companies. He is sculpting a cool orc bust at the moment as well but I am not sure if he posts on other forums. I may well be doing an orc when my current commission is finished to as it happens.
