Hi All,

I have a game against Tomb Kings Next week and am doing a bit of research. Can The Casket Of Souls when opened effect Daemons?

Thanks

It effects everything that can draw LoS to it.

Pretty sure nothing in the game can prevent the casket from hitting you (unless you dispell it)

Or just don't look at it. Close your eyes!

I tried that.

I saw a goblin wolf-rider/chariot army lead by Grom the Paunch march forward, then turn around. Casket threat: negated.

...though it looked very, very silly.

Warpsolution, I saw a similar army (goblin wolf-riders and chariots led by Grom) lose a painful 950 points of troops, including Grom himself, on the top of turn 1 before it ever got to move. That looked even sillier. The goblin player won an award for taking the most epic beatdown of the tourney.

As a tomb kings player, I PRAY for my opponent to show me the backside of his units

Most people use angling to try to negate it, but there is a much.... much better way.

I always just scroll it once or twice, have my flyers charge it, and beatdown the priest. Once he dies the whole thing crumbles.

Also a lot of players will just run away with their priest and let the thing crumble so you dont get the points for the priest.

Run and hide. Bury yourself in the sand and pretend like it isn't there. Or Simply don't show up to the battle. It can't kill your models if you refuse to play!

Or you could use one unit to block the Caskets LOS to the rest of your army... Light cav are brilliant for this, as are Skirmishers.

If your opponent is a smart player, he may have it on a hill with archers in front. You'll have to selectively charge the archers, and then overrun into the casket.

As a thinking player you have to design a 2 to 3 turn plan to get up there and deal with it. Here's the trick, though: You have to create a plan to go after it, and you also have to create a counter plan if he tries to stop you. Most of the best TK players will try to use their superior movement to do it. If he's going to sacrifice 500 points of chariots to kill your 200 points worth of "casket killers" and you can predict what he's going to do, you should have the upper hand. Always move with a plan, and ask yourself.. How would I counter this if I had 2 movement phases, THEN set yourself up for a 3rd soft counter. Now your TK opponent is in an untenable position. Either give you the caskett andl lose 300 points OR risk losing that unit to a soft counter.

Tomb Kigns opponents are notorious for only thinking one turn ahead of their opponent and stopping there.

It is not really hard to dispel that casket as it is not subject to Irresistable Force. The order of incantations also makes it a big problem for it to successfully go off.

Here's to 8th Edition and a fix to that problem.

What?

So you're telling me you're just going to allow your opponent all of the movement he wants in order to lock down the casket?

Or are you telling me you're going to use all of your powerdice to lock him down and stop his bound 3, 1d6, 2d6, 2d6, bound 4, 3d6, 3d6 (Possible 3d6), 2d6 (this one is the casket) casting order? That's 15 (18) DD on a 1 for one basis!

Malleus...I know that guy. He's the tournament organizer around here. He told me about that game (chariots, wolf riders, Grom), and how it was so terrible. We suggested that he just turn around (since he had so many units and was so fast anyway), so he tried it out later.

He got some Flamers at that tournament. To start a good army. Poor Orcs and Goblins...

@Ragnar4
No, as I play TK, my opponents like to see my face when not one of my incantations goes off. I would stop all the movement as possible, and two dispel scrolls just to shut down the casket in the first two vulnerable turns. Maybe it is just me, but people seem to be taking a lot of dispel dice and scrolls whenever I seem to play.
I do enjoy using the casket though.

In ur gaem, killin ur doodz.

I keep hearing all these horror stories about armies bringing tons of dice, but then I keep playing in tournaments and not seeing it.

Guess I should just be happy with my local meta game.
