Alright, tactical marines have 1 attack base and have a bolt pistol amongst their wargear.

The little marine charges, how many attacks does he have? 1+1 (base attacks plus charging bonus) or does he count as having a close combat weapon of some type that he uses with the pistol to get another attack? There are knives on the sprues, but assault marines have a "chainsword" entry in their wargear that would seem redundant if they already counted as owning one....

So, do tactical marines get 2 attacks or 3 on the charge?

On an unrelated head scratcher, vanilla marine drop pods hold 12 guys while a blood angels drop pod only holds 10. What stops me from taking a vanilla drop pod in my blood angels army?

What stops you from taking a regular SM drop pod? The fact that it is not available for your codex. You are either playing the BA codex, or the SM codex, but you cannot piecemeal your army together off of two codicies unless your army specifically states it can (like the WH/DH codicies state they can)

Edit: Oh, and Raeg is right about how many attacks they have on the charge. I had to double check wargear before I could confirm or deny..lol

You have 2. You only get +1A for CCW if you have TWO CCW.. One doesn't do anything.

As for the drop pod, the fact you are taking a BA army stops you.

Ah right, I remembered reading a paragraph that said i could bring other unit entries in my list to make my own chapter.

I also remembered something long ago that all models were considered to have a close combat weapon.

turns out, I can take any exotic unit I want in my blood angels army, so long as its a special character from the blood angels book, ooh boy the possibilities....

I also cannot remember where or from whom i heard that close combat weapon rule....

Sorry but you're wrong on both counts. If you want to take a BA list you have to select units solely from the BA codex just like any other codex the only exception is you can add Witchhunter and daemonhunter units to any imperial list (obviously including BA). You can't take other codex's units so no you can't take Vanilla Marines stuff or IG stuff anymore than you can take Tau units or Hive Tyrants.

Some units come with Bolter, BP and close combat weapon (Puppies and Chaos Marines for instance) those get the 3 attacks on the charge (and 2 if charged), Vanillas and BA tactical marines don't.

On a related note, my friend plays CSM, he says that they have a Bolter, Bolt Pistol and CCW, do they get the extra attack if using a bolter?

Yes. They have all 3. Remember if they fire a bolter they can't assault that turn because it's a Rapid Fire weapon. They always get the extra attack though.

The second half of my post is me telling you that i was wrong, dont focus on the wrong part of the story and ignore the rest
I simply couldnt recall certain keywords and couldnt refind them in my books.

This isnt that big of a complaint, but comparatively blood angels seem to have been cheated on some unit selections. No generic grand master HQ choice and smaller drop pods are the only two that i really care about, and keeping in mind that I'm pretty new to 5th ed and haven't read the space wolves or dark angels codex they may have similiar limitations on their books i just don't know about. I dont fret much on losing the thunderfire cannon and i do gain a sweet Baal predator and San. Priests to bolster my units so i suppose all things considered the book is pretty nice.

I just wish i could, i dunno, strap some extra guys to the outside of the drop pod or something.

Infamous - the SM pod having space for 12 seems to have been one of those things they later regretted. IT was mainly because tac marines cannot have any extra weapons until they hit 10, meaning that a drop pod of 9 plus IC was not very effective - so they gave them more space.

SW and BA have corrected that, and you now have sensible pods again.

Why bother? DPs aren't really suited tyo assault units anyway and with DOA jump pack marines are effectively as assured as a DP anyway and get tp move 12" a turn after they arrive...

The reason BA (and SW) DPs only fit 10 is to stop you having ICs in with the squads as those 2 chapters have by far and away enough enough advantages over Vanillas and methods for delivering ICs as is.

I surprised anyone would bemoan the lack of a generic CM as he is just a total waste and the Captain is a better option pretty much all the time particularly in an assault arorientated army like the BAs. I run 2 CMs in my Vanilla list and rarely use eithers orbital bombardment (have never used both in 1 game) and never select the pretty woeful Honourguard...

Seriously you are missing nothing. LSS and Thunderfire Cannon are the only misses that hurt you and you make up for both in other ways.

Marines have EXACTLY what their profile says. Bolter and Bolt pistol. (1 attack standard, 2 on the charge)

The pistol does nothing except allow them to fire a single bolter shot and assault afterwards.

Assault marins have a CCW and a bolt pistol so 2 attacks standard(1 base+1 for extra CCW=2 base attacks, 3 attacks on the charge)

@Infamous- the part you are talking about creating your own chapter is in the getting started portion of the space marine codex. It plays no hand with regards to what units you may choose, or rather anything to do with the game, it is simply there to inspire creativity, and to have fun with your army.
