My opinion of the Israeli Army is, shall we say, more than favourable - and I really like the painting. This stuff looks awesome.

You'll also have excessive dust weathering on the vortex area infront of the engines, where dust and debris is sucked in. There would also be dirt markings along the laminar airflow - on the areas where the air moves quicker so around the leading wing edges and tail wings. I'd also have paint rubbed off and chipped around the cockpit entry points and around the main doors.

(only quoting myself so I remember it on the 2nd page)

This is awesome advice, I'll definitely do this. It'll give me a chance to try the traditional chipping (with the bottom highlighted) as this tends to look better on clean items. I'll try to do some of this "peeling" on the nose too. I'm thinking, "peel" the nose, footholds, and areas around the front intakes.

For the exhaust, I'm thinking crushed pastels in brown and black.

Happy to help. A lot of people get a model and start weathering randomly all over. Which looks good. Or Orky. But to really take it to the next level, you need to think about where it would be and how intense.

Hey, just a pictureless update...

3 Hydras are nearing completion and I'll have some Vendetta updates soon. As for the infantry, there should be a juicy update in the near future. Please stay tuned.

The blog is not dead, I promise.

OK guys, I felt bad about bumping the thread earlier so I figured I'd get my butt in gear and start painting, then post an update for ya.

I'd originally planned to do OSL in the cockpit via airbrush but screw it...this is my first time ever doing OSL and I think it turned out OK. It's obviously WIP. I'm not sure if I want to do the pilots green as well, or go with red for them. Oh well...

Anyway, this shows some of the weathering, the jeweled out lenses, and OSL on the cockpit. Please be gentle, first time doing OSL. They're still a WIP btw...

Finished up the OSL on the cockpit. Turned out pretty well if I do say so myself.

OK, the army is roughly at the half-way point.

Completed so far:

2 Russes, 4 Chimeras, almost finished with the two Vendettas.

To do:

51 Infantry (2 CCS, Marbo, and 4 Vet squads) and 3 Hydras.

Hey, the OSL is actually very easy to do. It's based off of what you see when you're using a computer late at night: dark everything except the light cast from the computer.

1. Paint the area black.
2. Do a wetter-than-usual drybrush of Dark Angels' Green (or whatever the P3 equivalent is...) across the front of all the surfaces facing the light, away from the light source.
3. Add a little bit of Necrotite Green to the DA green on your pallet, and do this again, leaving some of the DA green showing.
4. Once more, do a very very light and short drybrush of about 80% Necrotite and 20% DA green away from the light source.
5. Finally, hard-highlight the edges facing the screen with pure Necrotite green.

Thanks!

My Psyker Battle Squad is going to be a bunch of guys praying with green stuff kippas (skull caps) and tallit (the shrouds). I'll use the standing Valkyrie gunners for this, just need to find 10 of them.

As for infantry, they're on the way. My order of Backpacks finally arrived and they're all assembled. Painting begins today or tomorrow!

Valkyrie, in its entirety, is spot on, and the lighting effect in the cockpit is pretty fabulous, but I must admit, I am not exactly sold on the tanks. Israel Tal, may God watch over Him, would probably dismantle those Chimeras and Leman Russes piece by piece and build some impressive machines to carry his troops forward... but then again, converting each and every piece of heavy equipment would be problematic. Still, should you ever plan making a Baneblade, there are at least two 1:35 scale Merkava IV tanks ripe for converting.

Thanks guys.

So a little update...I started painting the infantry. As a gaming army, they need to be quickly batch-paintable. Again, I'm going for heavy weathering.

This is my own little shameless plug...Yours truly as Guardsman Marbo. Note the pose. It's a work in progress. Still needs to receive weathering and basing. Maybe camo paint, not sure.

I wanted the backpacks to reflect the actual infantry packs in terms of size...

For the infantry, I'm going for the desert colored mitznafot (helmet covers, not me in the last pic btw)

Got a batch of infantry mostly complete, and I'm about half-way done the Hydras. All in all the army contains 51 infantry models, so doing 11 in two or three days of work means the army will be finished by the end of May most likely.

Still have to hit them with copious amounts of weathering powder and base them. Going to base them on desert style bases with little patches of grass just like my Chaos Space Marine army.

Thanks!

The backpacks are from a company called Black Dog. It's a Czech Company. I ordered them from UMM at the following link. These are 1/48 scale and work perfectly.

http://www.umm-usa.com/

They're US infantry backpacks. Unfortunately the only IDF equipment sets out there are 1/72 scale. I found out the hard way.

Hey guys! 5/11/11 update...

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I was busy with my thesis and other obligations, but now I'm back on track. Puppies! My lone Hydra had children, so I threw together a few Hydras and painted up 10 more infantrymen. I figured you guys might be curious about the Black Dog backpacks so I took pics of my plasma gunners to show some of the backpacks. There are larger ones, smaller ones, even little camelbacks. But anyway, this gives you an idea on the quality of the packs.

As for the Hydras, FW resin really sucks, I had to fab the top pieces out of plasticard as it came from SW rather unusable.

Those hydras look awesome! I love the weathering on them. Really well done. And those backpacks look really cool too. But I got one question for u. How do you make the camonet on the guardsmens helmets?

Thanks man! The heads are actually from West Wind Miniatures. It's the British WWII heads from their SHS line.

Here's an update on some infantry. So far I've finished: Marbo, 2 Vet squads, and 2 Company Command squads. Here are some CCS pics. These guys are based.

The company commanders display the actual Company Commander insignia on the shoulder seen here:

Again, these guys are supposed to be tabletop standard so I skipped a few steps (mold lines, eyes were done fast) but it takes me about 6 hours to burn through 10 infantry, which is pretty quick for me. Anyway, enjoy!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I just realized that I still haven't updated the blog with a full-army shot.

Here's what's finished so far.

The Hydras:

Since I didn't show it before, here's the OSL on the Plasma Cannons on the Demolishers. This was actually idiotically easy: I used blue chalk and brushed it away from the coils then sealed the powder with dullcote. Took 5 minutes to do 4 PCs.

The to-do list, in this order:

1. Complete Vendetta Cockpits and figure out a way of attaching them while keeping them removable.

2. Complete 20 more vets.

Long term goals:

Convert 10 Sanctioned Psykers for a Psyker Battle Squad using the standing heavy bolter gunners from the Valk kit (they should be standing and praying) and green stuff talliot (prayer shrouds) and kipot (skull caps).

Construct 2 Manticore Turrets and 1 additional Chimera for a 1,500 pt list. This would mean 2 Hydras and 2 Manticores in that list.

We're approaching the 2nd month of working on this army. It will be finished for 1,850 by the 25th but my case from Battlefoam won't be here until a couple weeks after. Stay tuned for my next project. Here's a hint: الوااااااج!!!!
