Umm.. yep..
A bunch of guys at work where talking about this. Man, my brain just doesn't remember what the products where. However they tend to buy stuff at Bunnings. De-greaser came up and apparently works well.
Some other product they talked about was "green" or "green strip". Man, I cant remember. Maybe talk to some of the bunnings mob about it.
Im not much help but I try.
I have used Turps in the past. Dont use on plastics though. Also, Metho can be good for some types of paints.
I also find an electric toothbrush helps to strip the paint under the tap once you apply the stuff.
Make sure you test any products you buy on a test miniature first though.

I use Dettol here in NZ, and it's supposedly made on Oz so should be the same formulation you'd find in the shops.

Dettol can work.
Dot4 brake fluid can also work on hybrids (don't leave in overnight.). This is what I use and a 5 minute soak and a scrub with an old toothbrush gets the caked paint off them.
(I've been stripping RT plastics and 2nd ed hybrid minis. It isn't even weakening the superglue bonds).
[of course, gloves, goggles and mask are essential ppe here. ]
Simple Green can be bought in many Bunnings hardware stores. It supposedly works. You need the "concentrate" stuff, not the weaker one.
I have no need for it, as the nearest bunnings in nowhere near me (local hardware is in the next suburb and I have an autoparts place around the corner.
All products are used 'neat' (not diluted).

Here we go.. Simple Green. Apparently there is various Simple Green products. You just want the "simple" version. Find at Bunnings. OR go here...

I use a screwtop jar big enough to hold the parts, pour in the Dettol, leave overnight, shake (to help dislodge dissolved paint layers), leave another half day, remove the parts and scrub with a small housepaint brush to (hopefully) remove the softened paint. Be warned the Dettol may turn to nasty sludge as you now wash it off with water. If any paint is left on the parts, let it dry then start the process from the first step again.
Results will vary, depending on the type of paint and how thick it is. I've had no bad effects on the underlying plastic or metal parts - but I've heard greenstuff may dissolve.

I find metho to be generally more effective than dettol YMMV; but as above, don't wash the minis off with water immediately afterwards.
I haven't tried simple green (even though it is what everyone recommends), Dettol and metho are easy to come by in any supermarket/general store / service station.

Windex also works suprisingly well, but I don't know what it will do to plastic. A part from that, just scrubbing them with water works too! It's not perfect, but I cleaned up one of my lemon russ's like that

Prawns, not shrimp
To the OP: I use methylated spirits. It's cheap, it's nasty, and it works in a matter of hours. It doesn't damage plastic, either. I've had minis in there for months (in fact, I still have some in a bucket somewhere that have been soaking for about a year now) with no problems. I bought a cheap 5L plastic container from Woolies or something, about half-filled it with metho and just dropped the minis in. I've also got a smaller container with metho that I use to scrub the minis in - it works better than using water. I also bought a cheap electric toothbrush to help save time
Also, always wear gloves when working with metho. Not only does the stuff make your hands more shrivelled than a pug's face (temporarily), it also taints the taste of any food product you'll pick up for the next few days.
However, it does tend to weaken glue bonds, and really softens up greenstuff and Forgeworld resin (the latter takes a few days to harden up again), so just be careful when scrubbing those

I've had mixed results with metho. Simple Green is still my pick.
