I have a certain aversion to anything necron until the new codex comes out because of all the dicey rulings throughout the codex.

But one ruling has caused a couple arguments at my FLGS and that is can Destroyers turboboost and shoot?

I say no because it says in the turboboost rules that you can't shoot if you boost, and the part on the destroyers page where it says they can move and shoot isn't a special rule so it doesn't supercede the rule book in any way but I was curious what the general opinion was.

It sounds like you've answered the question.

You would be correct, no, they cannot.

Specific trumps general. Turbo Boosters prevents the unit from performing ANY voluntary action. Shooting is a voluntary action, regardless if you move or not. You may not shoot and Turbo Boost.

No, they cannot, as per the Turbo Boosters rule.

This seems to be against the majority opinion at my FLGS and is the main reason I refuse to play many of the Necron players there.

That is pretty crazy. How is it hard to just follow the darn rules for Jetbikes moving and firing? They can move normally and still fire heavy weapons, or turboboost and not fire at all. Dead simple.

As a necron player Myself, I have never done this and would never even consider it, as per the Turbo Boosters rule.

Those of you who say that the Destroyers can't shoot: do you also say that a Monolith can't shoot on the turn in which it deep strikes?

I agree that Destroyers can't shoot when they turbo-boost. Their rules say that they can shoot if they move, but this doesn't provide a specific exception to turbo-boosting. Likewise, the Monolith has a rule that says it can fire its particle whip even when it moves, but when deep striking it counts as having moved at cruising speed and therefore would not normally be able to shoot.

Yeah, the Necron codex is full of these things. That's what happens when it's the second oldest codex available (not counting the DE reprint)...

I thought vehicles could shoot out of deep strike like everything else, albeit my knowledge of the vehicle deep striking rules are sketchy.

Vehicles that deepstrike count as cruising speed. Unless your a fast vehicle or have a special rule you can't fire at cruising speed. The monolith on the other hand can still fire it's particle whip due to it's wording.

It's not as cut and dry as that. It can be argued that it cannot fire the Particle Whip, though I don't agree with that argument. While the rule was in fact intended to allow it after moving normally (in 3rd edition you could not move and fire Ordnance of any kind), it now has a different purpose, similar to that assassin who can always fire his/her/it's pistol twice.

I agree with BlueDagger. In 5th, a deepstriking monolith can't fire its gauss flux arc but may choose to fire its particle whip.

"may fire when moving" is less specific than "may not fire if moved at Cruising speed", so I play that the monolith may not fire *anything* if it deepstrikes.
