After 4 years of it nagging me I am finally starting LoTR and am doing a Mordor army.
I have written up an army list using the legions of middle earth and this is what I have so far (600pts)
Minas Morgul (main)
Gothmog
w/ Shield and Warg
Black Numenorean Marshall
w/ Shield and Armoured Horse
5 Morgul Knights
24 Orc Warriors
w/ Shields
15 Orc Trackers
Cirith Ungol (ally)
Orc Shaman
w/ warg
C&C wanted, thanks in advance.

Hey there, sorry for the late response, only recently noticed the thread.
What are you going for, here? A themed army, or are you trying to be competitive?
Gothmog is rad and all, but in such a low points value army hes taking away a lot of bodies, and bodies are how orcs win. Good heroes are far superior to our own, and for the most part a good hero that costs as much as gothmog does is going to put him out of his hideous misery pretty quickly; in fact, some will even do it for cheaper. As a mordor player, you are going to need lots more orcs to be able to beat other armies generally superior troops, and even massively outnumbering good heroes still wont beat them. Your low fight means that you need to surround the enemy heroes so they cannot escape, and transfix them to bring their fight and attacks to 1, so that you are almost garaunteed to win the fight and gain double your normal attacks against him. When surrounded by a horde, transfix will mean certain doom to most heroes.
Youre on the right track with the shaman, as they can transfix enemy heroes. They have a difficult time getting the transfix off though as they only cast it on a 5+. That does come with an upside, though, as when you DO manage to get the transfix off, since you had to roll very well to cast it, the enemy hero needs to roll equally well to resist it. However you will find that requiring a 5+ is not reliable when your will points are so low, and you almost always are going to use one of them to cast rage. In my army, I run two or three shamans, so I have plenty of chances to get the transfix off, and also provide a wider area of coverage for the rage spell to affect my horde. An alternative would be to include a Nazgul, as they can transfix much more reliably, and have tons of will points to spend doing so. I do believe that some of the newer released Nazgul are supposed to be corrupted Numenorean kings, so they can fit into your Minas Morgul list nicely.

Ok, what if I swap out Gothmog, for another marshall and some more bodies?

What do you intend to achieve with the second marshal? You already have one leading the unit of Morgul knights, yes? If you are intent on using those knights for greater effect, you can drop Gothmog and bring in the ringwraith called "The Shadow Lord," and give him a horse. He conceals everyone within 6'' in such a way that enemy missle fire only hits them on rolls of 6. Riding within your unit of Morgul Knights, he serves to both protect them from ranged attacks, and to drop all the nasty spells that all Nazguls know.

Sorry, I meant to say orc captain, but I think you could be right about the Shadow Lord. If i take the orc captain though, how should I equip him?

um, you should have at least 1 hero, especially this army, its a force of bodies, try and get as many good bodies as you can but divide it into diffrent groups, EXAMPLE: Have your main force attacking and a smaller force atacking around the side, um cant think of the word, you could say like reinforcements and it depends what the scenario is.
I've been playing LOTR for about 2 years and i do high elves, and i've just mastered how to use them and it can be quite hard trying to figure out your numbers so my suggestion just buy a force and a few heros and than depending on your opponents army, work it out there at the shop (GW)

Captains are brilliant, cheap might is good, and then there are the more renowned captains. Grishnak is
one of the best leaders an orc army of this size, his 3 might is just 5pts more and the normal amount you should pay for an extra might is around 25pts.
The thing that makes morgul such an awesome force to be reckoned with, spectres, they have the best enemy control special rule/spell/etc because it is free, no might, no will, just 15 pts and a courage
test, and then you have the ability to move the enemy!

I'd really really advise that you make use of a troll two and follow them around with a unit that contains a shaman. shaman/ troll combos are the greatest thing ever. Not to mention, magic is one of the most useful things in the game by itself.

For mordor, bulk out on cheap troops with more expensive heavy cavalry. Get a few monsters in too, whether they be trolls, shelob (slightly tricky to use), or other nasties.
Get a load of shamans and captains, and once you've got a rather large force, I would consider Sauron himself. He has served me extremely well.
