So, I've asked around in my store (we don't have anyone playing Necrons), and the general consensus is that with 7 weapon damage results (6 for the flux arc, one for the big gun) and a couple immobilizes will destroy the monolith.

I have read elsewhere here that the big gun can never be targeted by a 'Weapon Destroyed' result, and thus you cannot move up the chart.

If it is not a weapon that can be destroyed, wouldn't that then discount it from the number of weapons you need to destroy?

Hoping to hear some thoughts on this, thanks.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

It cannot happen.

End.

The Flux Arc can never be destroyed. You could have it at D6 minus 9,578,147 shots, and it still will not be destroyed. Therefore, you can no longer glance the monolith to death, unless it is with an AP1 weapon.

Is it a weapon or a piece of wargear (like a deffrolla)?

It's a weapon with special rules on how it deals with Weapons Destroyed results.

The Flux Arc is 110% a weapon, as it is affected by Weapon Destroyed Results, just in a special Way.

The Matrix Thing (the One that can Teleport or be fired as the Whip) is not a "weapon" and cannot be Destroyed either. That doesn't have anything to do with being unable to glance it to death though, it's the Flux Arc and the Flux Arc alone that does that.

On the train headin down to delicious town

It cannot happen because the necron codex states that every weapon destroyed result simply subtracts 1 from your flux arc roll...so the weapon never really gets destroyed..and no you cannot target the particle whip as the codex specifically says you cannot....

so no a monolith can NEVER be glanced to death...

Plus you get the fun wording of subtracting -1 from the amount of attacks for each weapon destroyed result... ahh basic math,

But ya, you should prob play it as subtracting 1 attack each wep destroyed.

A necron player with a soul would progbably take the first six weapon destroyed results and then let it naturally cascade across the chart.

Of course if I had enough heavy weapons to glance a monolith to death i would probably just ignore it and blast away and the little warriors with them.

Penetrate or ignore it. Standard law of Man and Necron apparently.

What they're doing at your FLGS is odd. I assume by the "Big Gun" you mean the Power Matrix (which, for the record, cannot be removed by "weapon destroyed" results, as it says in the Codex.) Nevertheless, the 6 WD results and then it counts as having "no weapons" makes sense to me.

RAW-wise, however, it cannot be destroyed by glancing hits alone.

I always see it played as Gwar has stated. You cannot glance it to death.

... I see what you did there.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.
