Hi all,
I've been on an extended hiatus from the hobby. From when I played before I have a terribly painted chaos army and some quite nice looking eldar. I'm really into the setting, particularly the Astartes (not very interesting to many, I know). I've been looking at some of the awesome blogs on here, and I thought I should join in. I don't think I have even half the talent that most of the painters on here are displayed and (for now) my conversion skill is minimal, but I'm making an effort and some feedback would be handy ! Any tips you guys can give me would be really appreciated.
About the army... having read somewhere that the Black Templars were almost entirely destroyed during the Third War for Armageddon, I started thinking about crusades. So, rather than an out of control force like the Black Templars, I thought that another imperial office might create such a force for their own uses.
So, we have the Crimson Order. Created from the gene-seed of the Imperial Fists, and controlled by the Inquisition, a chapter on constant crusade against the overt, and covert, enemies of the Imperium. No one is safe from their wrath. Xenos, daemons, heretics... even mere suspects are lucky to avoid their fury.
Anyhow, out of grimdark storyteller mode here are some models. The colour scheme, and the names of the characters if you're really that interested, are all based on the Crusades. I will eventually get round to painting a crusader cross on each shoulder pad, once my freehand work improves. I've never done this before so apologies if it goes horribly wrong.
Starting off, we have the leader of the Crimson Order. Here be Alexius, Justice Ascendant. He's a fairly tame conversion of the Emperor's Champion, using some other stuff I found in my bits box to make a funky banner. I'm waiting for some greenstuff to arrive from ebay so I can make a banner.
I took a bunch of other pics, but they didn't come out so well. I'll work on my picture taking for the future.
Also, a tactical squad WIP.
A few other things. I'm finishing that 10 man tactical squad using the pure white (despite being told this is a bad idea), however the next squad will use light greys instead.
Also, if anyone can explain to me how to post smaller pics that would be wonderful
Regards,
RH

It is great to see an unusual Chapter...I get fed up seeing Ultramarines and the like...
The white is WHITE, isn't it? It could do with a little toning down but you have already said about using light greys so this may help.
Looking good so far and I look forward to seeing more .

Yes, the white is unfortunately WHITE. I was only informed that this was a mistake after I'd done these four models, so now I'm finishing the first tactical squad in that style. I'll change for my next squad.
I'll also be changing to black undercoat, which should tone the happy go lucky brightness of the colours down a bit.

I have a reputation, Modile, a reputation as a fair, honest man who treats his soldiers well and supports them in the face of darkness. Potentially, that reputation makes me soft. It seems I understand failure and forgive it. Some, like Kowle, believe me to be a weak commissar, not prepared to take the action my rank demands. Not prepared to enforce field discipline where I see it failing. I am an Imperial commissar. I will enflame the weak, support the wavering, guide the lost. I will be all things to all men who need me. But I will also punish without hesitation the weak, the incompetent, and the treasonous.
I am a Commissar. I am empowered to deliver justice wherever I see it lacking. I am empowered to punish cowardice. I am granted the gift of total authority to judge, in the name of the Emperor, on the field of combat.

Could you get a better picture of the first one? It looks nice, but it's hard to see the details with the entire front side in shadow.
Paint scheme looks good on the squad; at first I was going to say "COLOR THE SHOULDER!", but then I realized it was a WIP.

The Sergeant's shoulder you mean? Yeah, I'm undecided what to do with it at the moment. I'm half tempted to leave it white, to fit with the colour scheme... but at the same time, it's a little too much white. I might paint a red cross on it to give it a little more pop.
Yeah. I'm frustrated with the way the picture of the champion came out. I'll take another one when I sort the next batch of tactical marines.

I am one of the lucky few to have experienced these models in the flesh (as per say)
Have to say i really enjoy the color scheme and agree with original comments on the shoulder pad white being turned down slightly. Appart from that i feel the emperors champion / captain conversion is well converted.
Look forward to seeing mroe of your work.
Peace out Anarchy

Quick pictureless update. I've reworked the sergeants shoulder, it's now very light grey, edged with white with the shoulder studs also white. Looks much better. I've also finished a plasma gunner and started work on the next few tactical marines from this squad.
I'm working on getting better pictures, I'll post some when I have more models and better pics
