Why do we only see this on vehicles? Why aren't there infantry versions in heavy or special weapons teams, much like heavy machine guns in modern infantry?

I don't know whether it would fill a gap for Imperial Guard, but I do wonder why they aren't available as an option. I have something of a soft spot for the gun.

Not entirely true.

There's a heavy weapons version that the standard Kriegers have which is twin-linked and mounted on a gun carriage.
Then there's the single, man-portable version that the DKOK Grenadiers have.

As for why we don't see them, the assumption is because Heavy Stubbers are considered "antiques" by the Imperium at large. Remember that the Gaunt's Ghosts series, where they were popular, is set some 300-400 years(at least) prior to the current timeframe.

Ya, seeing them as an option in the special weapon slot for 5 pts wouldnt be outrageous for platoons. Would pair up well with a HB or AC.
