Hey guys and gals,

As the title of this thread implies, Im getting interested in playing Warmachine, specifically Protectorate of Menoth. Ive only had a game or two to have a rough grasp of th egames mechanic, and last night wrote up a 40 point list ( I like to make a decent list and fill it out rather than just pick up stuff willy nilly; I only have a small budget for stuff each month). I looked through the units, and I looked at the tier lists, and with that in mind, I wrote a tier list based around Grand Exemplar Kreoss's list.

Grand Exemplar Kreoss
5 Exemplar Bastions-8
6 Exemplar Errants-5
2 units of 6 Knights Exempler-10
Officer/standard-2
Fire of Salvation-9
*2 Crusaders- 6 (using Kreoss's 'warjack allocation)
Knights Exempler Seneschal

What do you guys reckon? I mean, Ill playtest this of course, btu I want some reactions on what its weak points and strengths might be. i designed it to fulfill all 4 tiers to get the most out of it (plus the models are pretty sweet for the most part :p )

thanks

If you plan on sticking with his Theme list that looks pretty solid. You are a bit Melee heavy though. Granted that's what you need for the feat turn but you need something to thin out troops and pick off solos on the way in. You might consider swapping out the Crusaders (one or both) and taking a Vanquisher and/or a Redeemer or two. With the loss of the Choirs in the Theme list the Redeemer looses a lot of his punch though so the Vanquisher(s) with their fire causing AoE might be the better choice. Also if you pick up one of the plastic kits it's not too hard to magnetize the arms so you could swap between Crusaders and Vanquishers depending on the points size of the game.

When he comes out you'll also want to pick up the Errant Seneschal as he helps the unit out nicely.

If you want more generic Protectorate advice feel free to ask... that was more directed at the caster you'd picked.

eKreoss is allowed to field the Sunburst if you want ranged options.

True and it's a fairly solid model in MK II. Also not too expensive point wise. I think I might still swap out one of the Crusaders for a Vanquisher... but adding in a Sunburst would help out... nice pow and a good sized AoE... with a decent range to boot.

Well, i like the look of menoth most of all; and the more knightly aspect of the Exemplars appeals ot me rather than zealots and such, so its partly down to aesthetics. I've yet to playtest it; which of course will be done before I decide on how I run with it. Id be open to suggestion as to other good lists; and general advice on how PoM play in WM would be appreciated. In all, im a pretty crap WM player, having just started, so any advice that you guys could give would be appreciated, and if you could speak in simple terms, it would help more Im still confused by some fo the rules and all.

Thanks

If you consider yourself "crap", then decide whether you're playing for fun or to win - if you're playing to win, then you might get frustrated if it doesn't happen much. If that's the case, go with pKreoss and run things like the sunburst, a redeemer, and maybe a reckoner. Use his feat to knock down the enemy caster and then blast them with the redeemer, some immolates, the sunburst, or all of that. Just remember that there are counters to it [such as the covenant of menoth].

If you want to play for fun, I can't recommend eKreoss or Reznik enough. Reznik is an awesome beatstick of a caster and really runs jacks well with a choir. Win or lose, it's fun to frustrate the enemy with choir for denial and jacks running all over the place in response to their magical attacks via Witchhunter. Run the Fire of Salvation along with him and you'll really piss them off when he covers almost 20" in a single turn between his own ability, Witch Hunter, Perdition, Enliven, and his own normal movement.

eKreoss is fun to play because you can CHOKE the enemy with knights. Running daughters of the flame is a lot of fun too [DEATH during his feat turn], and they fit into his theme list. I almost always enjoy running eKreoss and his knightly order - unless they always miss, that's frustrating.

Well, I think the crapness is because Im new to the game, and theres alot that aint similar to 40k//fantasy, which are the only other 2 systems I play. I'm slowly getting better with some practice, but Ill say, its a rage game for sure. I mean, normally Blood Bowl's the thing that ends up with me wanting to tear something a new one, but WM is in a league of its own
Im the kind of player who can take a loss, because its part of the game and all, but I wont make crap lists that don;t stand a chance. For example, Ive a mate who runs adwarf miner list with Thorek, and while the entire of our local gamerbase has acknowledged this to be so ballsy he probably IS a dwarf, he barely wins any games, because he has no mobility and all..

I've played a few games, ranging from 20-30 points with units taken out from my original list, and Ill say, Im impressed. Theres a good amount of synergy in eKreoss's tier list. The Bastions just live through anything (It took the fury of Deneghra with several focus multiple times and a couple of jacks to break them) and in return give out a good hard kick as well. The Knights Exemplar, with their bond of brotherhoodjust get better as folk nail them; which makes running through that storm of fire a bit easier.I played a cryx list with the helljack (guy who kills things and gets soul tokens, big bugger) and Deneghra ddi her feat of "you suck for a turn, hur hur hur". The Fire of Salvation, after that and when I used eKreoss feat just hammered the helljack and then some. I mean, I think I did something like 80% of th edamage on him in that 1 activation and the 2 bastions I sent in finished it off I think.

In all, I like how this list plays; it seems to work well (Im a space wolf player in 40K, so Melee is my home ground ). Ill most likely be investing in this list (Test games had EPIC proxying ) Thanks everyone for th eadvice and help with it; i appreciate it and all. Have a drink on me

eKreoss is great. I'm not a big fan of the shooting aspects of Menoth though. Maybe it's been scenarios we've played in our local league, but Menoth seems to survive on numbers. I usually run 2 groups of daughters and I love the knights exemplar. I've found people tend to freak out about our infantry and leave the few jacks I run alone. Then they get into the fray with the Choir backdrop and rip things apart.

eKreoss and daughters are a nasty combo against any warcaster that doesn't see it coming. Just watch out for the T-God with daughters - I watched an entire unit go poof.
