I was wondering if you get to consolidate after assaulting and destroying a vehicle. Page 40 states that you do when the unit's opponent is destroyed or falling back and technically the unit is destroyed but is it the unit's 'opponent'?

Nope, you only consolidate after you're engaged in close combat and then for some reason you are no longer engaged (falling back, your opponent used "Hit and Run" etc.), you're never engaged in close combat with a vehicle.

Please look at p 63 "Vehicles and Assaults" Particularly "Combat Results".

Please note this also means that a unit may not "Hit and Run" from a vehicle.

Unless the vehicle is a walker, as they fight like infantry.

Which is why walkers are very odd beasts, and well worth rereading their rules as they ignore a lot of close combat effects...
