If i use the gate of infinity can i use either a locator beacon or a teleport homer?
Or do i have to just hope that the dice will be merciful and i don't scatter to much?

Locator beacon is A-ok, but the teleport homer only works for units that are teleporting.

Per the rules, GoI places you on the table as though you deep-strike, but never uses the word 'teleport'.

Locator beacon works for all uses of deep-strike. One popular tactic is to have a libby cart around sternguard near a chain of drop-pods.

While I agree with rashad's answer, it's worth pointing out that some players feel that as the GoI rules refer to placing using the deep strike rules, rather than stating specifically that the unit is Deep Striking, the unit is not actually Deep Striking, but is rather simply being placed in a similar manner... and so the locator beacon does not actually work.

Strikes me as a rather odd distinction to make, but it's been argued to death here before, so worth keeping in mind.

I agree with not using GoI with the Beacon...for the reasons listed. (as nice as it would be to use with my Marines.)

The scatter dice? They will always have it in for you. Even if they behave one game, they'll be back to kick you in the balls another.

Anyways, I never thought that GoI should work with teleport homer, but then again I never thought he should scatter/scatter so much. It's like saying the libby doesn't know left from right or something.

"Leutenant, you said the astropath died. So who's directing the ship?"
"The Librarian, sir."
"ooooooooh.... crap."

Anyways, I always imagined, as it said, a CORRIDOR through space, i.e. a blue swirly thing that opens, eats the people and closes. Opens up later where the libby wants and spits 'em back out. Maybe instead of scatter it could of been if the libby suffers a perils of the warp and he's with a unit D6 members also suffer perils of the warp, as they are attacked in transit.

That doesn't really help.
Really though would I be allowed to use a locator beacon for GoI in a tourny or should just not use it?

Why are you asking us? You need to ask the person running the tournament.

Because he didn't know that I could take stuff from codex WH or DH in my SM army and he isn't too reliable on rules. He is the guy who did run the gaming club until recently. Its only really a tourny in name i guess.
But seeing as i had a 1/2 hour conversation to get across that i could have WH or DH in my SM army you could say its hard to get the point accross to him.
Its an apoc game as well btw

For games like this, I'd suggest using Adepticon's INAT FAQ. While some people have a rather poor opinion of it, everyone can agree it's clearly better than a TO that doesn't have even a cursory knowledge of the codexes.

You can get it here: http://www.adepticon.org/?page_id=687

Their ruling says that Teleport Homers and Locator Beacons (oddly combined as Homing Beacons) work with GoI.

Which brings it's legitimacy into question, really. Teleport Homers state they are for Terminators.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Better than nothing...but a poor settlement really. Only slightly less arbitrary than the clueless TO.

The GW ones, that are mostly written by other people!

A librarian with GoI is something i haven't tried before and thought would be useful from what i know of my oppenents and what they are considering.
If there is no clear answer then i'll stick to what i know how to use for now.
Thanks for the help.

Assuming you do have a libby then in that 5k of lovely marines, how you intend to run him?

Power armour libbys are quite hard to fit into army lists nowadays.

Used to have a termie/ss libby.
Stopped using him with latest SM codex, converted to a DH.

GoI + Locator Beacon makes sense to me.

IMO Gating does seem to be Deep Striking, but is not explicitly teleporting, so Teleport Homers wouldn't work.

I also agree that INAT is a good idea if your local organizer/rules guy doesn't have a very clear and exhaustive knowledge of the rules. Any given person will disagree with some of INAT's rulings (though which ones vary from person to person), but it's very comprehensive, very clearly written, and very handy.
