Crazed Savage Orc

Hey all. I am trying to come up with the angriest -take-all-comers kind of thirster. These are the two I am musing about:
Thristy 1: Armor of Khorne, Firestorm Blade, Axe of Khorne, Rerolls to hit (whatever its called)
Thirsty 2: Armor of Khorne, Dark Insanity, Rerolls to hit (whatever it's called)
Feel free to give me your two cents. Math-hammer me, personal stories, hated versions of thirsty, whatever. Thanks for the help!

A Blood Thirster should always be wearing the following.
Obsidian Armor: 3+ armor save, and turns off all magical weapons in base to base
Immortal Fury: re-roll all missed attacks
Spell Breaker: A dispel scroll on a BT, awesome!
The Obsidian Armor, will make him much more resilient against everything but War-Machines but frankly if you let them have more than one shot, he deserves to die. . . P.S this works great versus Vampires
Immortal Fury, will allow him to avoid whiffs of stupid rolling, which we all know can get any big guy splatted by combat resolution.
Spell Breaker, I just find funny since he sure as hell isn't a mage. . .

Agreed on Obsidian.

In place of the spell breaker, it's a toss up on Axe of Khorne or Firestorm Blade with advantage to the latter. Firestorm blade is going to be more useful in most situations- the extra strength splits open even tough targets, with a high modifier. The flaming will help you dice up hydras, hell-pits and other regenerators.
But since you mention all-comers, you must be aware that you're setting yourself up for trouble should a star dragon arrive on the scene. So if that's your route, definitely consider how you would approach that situation.

My brother actually playtested a few 'thirster load outs across my armies, we found that offence is really the way to go... i would take either :
1. awesome strength, immortal fury (100) against heavy armor
2. dark insanity, immortal fury (80) against hoards
3. dark insanity, firestorm blade (80) against monsters
The rational behind this is that the bloodthirster is built like a farkin brickhouse, and you really should exploit his killy power to the max. he is a frenzied flying init 9 whirlwind of death that you barely control; other than deciding where to deploy him (to minimize warmachine shooting), and which unit is barrels into each turn (to make sure he doesnt get rerouted or failed charge). in all cases nothing should survive his attacks, ever, and therefor having armor is kinda silly imo...the only things that have a decent chance at hurting him are warmachines that will bypass regular armor anyway, and close combat heros...
...but you will kick the demonic sh!t out of anything in melee.
load 1 is basically forcing 7ish ward/regen saves a turn.
8 attacks
ws 10 + reroll misses = *autohit*
str 10 = *autowound*
load 2 exchanges *autowound* (on anything t5 or higher) for more attacks, 10 on average. (2d6+2=9 +1 for frenzy)
load 3 is the gamblers thirster, relying on what the dice "should do". 2d6+3 attacks that will be hitting and wounding on 3+/2+ on almost everything, -4 to saves, and flaming for those annoying regenerators/trees
hope it helps, and keep the KoS in mind as he can be just as lethal with a bit of magic also

Be careful of a High Elf Prince with Armour of Caledor on a Star Dragon. He would welcome your fiery weapon wielding bloodthirster with open arms!!

In my opinion, every time somebody fields a BT against me I feel like it doesn't need any equipment...
Really, Obsidian Armour will avoid you from being killed (or at least wounded) by any non-monster melee units (expect for great weapon wielding Saurus or Chaos, which have a very hard time to crack through your defense).
And for the post above me, Prince isn't going to pwn BT so hard (only normal pwn) if he has Obsidian Armour (expect with normal lance, and then again, statistically only one will wound) although the Star Dragon can do something (3 hits, 2 wounded ~1 wound through). Without Obsidian Armour this would go heavily in favour of Prince and Star Dragon.

Immortal Fury is the only compulsory upgrade. It's what turns him from good to borken.
Flaming axe is usually awesome, but if High Elves are a significant factor in your local area, can be a drawback.

Wow. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I wonder how useful Obsidian armor really is. For example, against a HE wielding the star lance. IIRC the star lance gives you +3 S on the charge. Well Obsidian arm. means its only +2 S. Not a difference worth 50 points. Anyone have a story of Obsidian Arm. saving their bacon/ruining their day?

IMO the OA nullifies the Star Lance complitely, so it would be worth the points.
And off topic, does the Dragon get immune to fire from Dragon Armour? Or was Orkimedes just joking?

He's not joking. High Elf dragons are immune to flaming attacks.

Yea, it applies to both mount and rider. its awesome. I actually make a HE army just for our 2 BT demon armies atmy FLGS. It's so heartwarming to actually see a BT scared of a HE Noble. I enjoy myself every time I play them!!

It's the magic armor you can buy for your hero. It's called Armor of Caledor. I think it's a 25 pt upgrade. It give a 2+armor save that cant be improved and counts as dragon armor. In the dragon armor text ( under dragon princes) it says that it applies to both mount and rider, immunity to breath attacks as well as flaming attacks. Very nice for only 25 points.
