I was just wondering, this may be considered breaking the rules alittle so I hope I dont get my head bitten off for even thinking this way but here goes.
If I use the Vanguard Vetern Squad and put Dante in the unit before battle begins does the unit then get his Descent of the Angels rule? I know they can claim his Surgical Strike because of RAW but I was wondering about the other rules like Descent of the Angels. It doesnt say that a unit without the rule gets it if a unit with the rule joins it but it also doesnt say that the model with the rule loses it if it joins a unit that doesnt have said rule...

Well, if you are attaching Dante to the Vanguard, I assume the Vanguard have Jump Packs.

Read the BA Jump Pack rules, where it mentions a certain special rule beginning with D.

And just to nit pick, be careful with the word Retinue. It has a very specific meaning, and NOTHING in the BA codex is a Retinue.

Yeah, I now relise I am misusing the word retinue, sorry for that. And I did see the normal Deep Strike rules I was just wondering that if Dante has joined the unit before the game begins does he supercede this rule or does he lose his Descent of the Angels rule? It would make sense that he does but I would like to know before I make unjust assumptions

By the rule, I meant DoA. BA Jump packs give any models with them DoA, so it's not an issue!

Oh I missed that. I thought that was only for models that had the special rule Descent of the Angels but ok then, then no worries. Oh and yes the Vanguard unit would have jump packs

Is dante an IC?

If not, then he can't join a unit, retinue or otherwise.

Yes he is an IC. The only werid not ICs in the BA codex are the Sanginator, DC Tycho and Mehphaildon.

You do realize that Vanguard vets cannot use Heroic intervention if an IC joins them.

Oh right...I suppose that makes sense...so do they lose the ability? Or what rule says they cant...It of course makes sense, I just want to be properly informed because if I can think of it surely some-one else will and Im sure the question will come again so I want to be able to answer without saying I heard it from a guy...

Have only played one game against BA so far and Dante ate a melta shot.

None of the other (new recruits/bandwagon-jumpers) have bothered fielding Dante so far and they've only turned up when I'm not at the club (and it's local for them - I'm an out-of-towner).

Well Ive played a couple games with the BA's both new and the previous edition. Ive never been a fan of using Special Characters, I felt it too cheesy but I have to say Dante is worth the points...and making SG troops really packs a punch. I have palyed a simular set-up before except I had SP, DC and Assault Squads instead of so many SG and no VVG and no AthG. It worked nicely but my mate (and regular Cron Opponent) said he cant understand why I dont just only field SG. I had to agree with him but I still feel it is a little cheesy
