Subject: Legion Colors?

Im sure this will be cleared up pretty fast, but im in the middle of reading the HH collection (at the end of Galaxy In Flames ATM) and I have some queries about the "Traitor legions" colors. Firstly who are the white marines with green trim on the Galaxy In Flames Cover? The symbol looks like death guard, but the books state that death guard have no paint on their armour. Secondly who are the grey marines on the cover of Horus Rising? (I think their the world bearers but im not sure) Finally what actually is the paint scheme for the sons of Horus? I think its sort of metallic green but I cant find any pictures of them anywhere.

Galaxy in flames: Death Guard. Should be light grey with green trim if they would follow the example of index astartes.
Horus rising : Luna wolves. XIII legion and the eye of terra/horus should hint on them.
The luna wolves switched to a weird shade of green ( IIRC nothing metallic ) after beeing renamed to sons of horus.
Were originally white.

Sons of Horus were "Sea Green". Kinda a bluish green. Luna Wolves went from White, to Sea Green to Black. It's a metaphor.

Thanks for the info, but i still don't get why the lunar wolves are grey on the cover of Horus Rising rather than pearl white, weren't the world bearers meant to be stone grey?

because when your in war somtimes your armour gets a bit dirty when explosions are going off all around you, shells flying through the air, cities burning and invisible dudes that are trying to blow your head off.

Im not sure if its "really" a metaphor but its just the physical representation of their desent into chaos and evil (depending how you look at it)
Also i took a look at horus rising again and if you look at the fluff the cover art isnt actually correct! The marines armour was definatly grey (i already said battle damage probably caused this) but they had a pink shoulderpad with the eye of horus on it and gold/bronze trim, as far as i know the legion never adopted this colour scheme, the eye was when they were sons of horus and they had a wolf when they were the luna wolves. Also they never had pink or anything like it, no company markings or anything like that mentions them as having a pink shoulderpad,so its just another HH screw up
Oh if you want a great Sons of Horus colour scheme i found the one included with Firestorm Over Kronus for Dark Crusade was the best, well everything in that mod was awesome but anyway check it out.

I think that its still a metaphor, but I may be mistaken. I think it stops being a metaphor when its stated 'the reason we changed our paint scheme to black is because we became evil.' (or somesuch) If the colors were changed for another reason, and it just so happens to also mimic their fall into darkness, then its a metaphor. Again, I could be wrong.
Also, in regards to the cover art, that's a harsh reality of publishing. Frequently cover artists have their heads up their asses. Sometime, look up the various cover for the novel Orcs. Some artists apparently never even heard of an orc. Sometimes the cover art bears no resemblence to anything in the book, or wildly changes certain aspects. (Another great example of cover art that doesn't match the books is the Noble Dead saga, by Barb and JC Hendee.) If it helps, I had similar confusion at first.

for their descent into Chaos. First they were pure and innnocent (white). Then things got muddyed up a bit when the broke some of the Emperor's decrees and fraterized with chaos and renamed themselves The Sons of Horus. Then straight up unapologfetically evil: Black Legion. many other stories have used similiar visual cues.

Probably going to open up a huge can of worms here but space marine armor isnt metal as such,
Its ceramite with adamandium plates in places so that would probably be why it looks sort of ceramic when bare..
