In the IG book you can take any combo of open and closed crew compartments on your battery. At what stage do you allocate the results on the damge table? For example the battery gets hit and penetrated 2 times. They roll a 2 and a 3. If I have both an open and closed topped vehicle in the squad is there anything stopping me from allocating the 3 to the open and the 2 to the other and saving one viable gun? Is that a correct order of things?

Surprisingly the details on how shooting works with squadrons are covered on page 73 iirc of the BRB.
